Colors Gallery, meet Kizaki_Mizuto

An aspiring young artist pursuing her greatest dreams, @Kizaki_Mizuto strives to thrive in her art journey. With anime being one of her main inspirations, her growth as an artist is fueled by endless otaku energy! Let us channel that energy as well while we read this interview!

@Kizaki_Mizuto is the artist we want to get to know! Tell us about yourself! Who are you?

I am someone who never stops pursuing her dreams, here I am known as Kizaki Mizuto (although it is a nickname but I prefer it). I am a young artist and I have been learning how to draw for 3 years and my skills have improved noticeably, I am very proud of who I am now, next question!!

Your gallery shows your inner otaku! Anime is obviously a big influence of yours, what other influences would you say you have? What are you biggest inspirations and what got you into art in the first place?

When I was little, I wasn't interested in anime. Once I saw my mother making us drawings I started to get curious. One day my parents put on movies for us and I got interested in one in particular, one from studio Ghibli. I think it was "Ponyo on the cliff" which interested me a lot. From then on my parents started letting me watch anime with them, which made me get interested in anime.

My current inspirations is the anime My hero Academia (Kōhei horikoshi style).

A loose style like yours is always worthy of admiration! Care to explain your artistic process? What's your thought process when creating art? How did you develop your style?

It started very badly around 2022. I didn't know about proportions or hair, The next year I tried hard. I started watching videos. My drawing were stiffer than a wooden stick but they looked good! The hair was the biggest challenge I had to learn to be loose with my wrist and to draw the strands quickly, an artist I recommend is @ssmangadiary, she is a youtuber who helped me to grow and learn, if you want to learn to draw more anime check out her YT!

How'd you come across the Colors community? What are your favorite things about it?

When I entered Colors I didn't expect much. Once I had the demo, I created an account out of pure curiosity, and ended up being part of this community! There are a lot of kind people and that's what I like about it! Yhey are kind and very supportive of others!

Yep! i have 3 years in colors!! by Kizaki_Mizuto

What are your dream features for a future update or iteration of Colors Live?

I would like you to add an online option to paint with others, some animation options, or add a few more minutes to the demo, that would help many demo artists get a little more out of their potential!

Top 3 favorite Colors Live artworks?

あけおめた by tsuna-mayo

The Dragon-born fighter Vidofnir by The_Adjudicator

(2nd favourite drawing): The First time I saw This guy as an image, I couldn't believe it!! this is awesome and I still admire the drawing process from time to time.

Water Bender by Acchan

(3rd favourite drawing) Many of Acchan's paintings give me a refreshing breeze especially this one, which is one of my favourites! Or maybe its because the fan is on? Haha!

Favorite artist on and off Colors Live? What makes them special to you?

My favorite artist outside of Colors is Kōhei Horikoshi. As I mentioned before, I have many favorite artists within Colors. @MinaAmeya was the one I was inspired by when I started, then @acchan, and then @The_Adjudicator. Although @MinaAmeya is apparently no longer on Colors, I still check out his gallery since he was my first subscriber and my first inspiration.

Which artworks of yours would you say define you as an artist the most? How did they challenge you and do you have any personal favorites?

midna by Kizaki_Mizuto

I feel that this is the one that best represents me as an artist, despite being just starting out it looked very good!

Hard work by Kizaki_Mizuto

This was a real challenge, even tough I did it quickly I needed to remember a lot of things about how to put lights in the skin, although it is rather semi-realistic / anime. I love it, I felt proud even tough its is not my favorite.

My dog midna's paw by Kizaki_Mizuto

This is my favorite drawing, it's too realistic for me! haha, although not many people have seen it, it was a real honor to have done it, Since I was next to my pet when I was doing it.

This was HARD! Hahaha!

What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses? As you evolve as an artist, how do you want to overcome your weaknesses and improve your current strenghts?

My strengths.... I can put it in three ways: I'm very firm in my opinions, which I consider a strength. I'm brave and try new things out of curiosity! And I have a lot of imagination!

On the other hand, my weaknesses are my limitations of my own progress, since I'm still learning, so there are things I can't draw. An example is semi-realistic dogs or wolves. It's a challenge for me, and a very big one!

We're already in October! How has 2025 treated you so far? What are some goals for the near or far future?

Everything's been going well so far. I've made good progress.
I'm in the process of working on a project. I plan to create a manga, learn how to play piano well and improve my animation skills!

Your Kizaki persona is cute and reminds me of some anime I watched growing up! How did you design them? Do they have a backstory or any lore?

I can't show the character's lore yet, I'll reveal more later, but I can share a little about her design process!

It started as a sketch of a funny school girl who liked to wear fake horns, although she did have a demon tail. As time Went by, I changed it a lot. I liked the color palette from the beginning since most of them matched and were attractive to the eye. For the bangs, I was inspired by Anya from SpyxFamily because I wanted kizaki to have a more childlike quality!

HELLO THIS IS ME!!!! by Kizaki_Mizuto

What's some advice you care to share that's gotten you through the most hardships in life?

Never give up no matter what anyone tells you. If your dreams are big, pursue them, propel them forward, and never stop dreaming! Aim for the stars!!

For the low self-esteem, both socially and in decision-making, "If you want success, don't wait for the perfect moment. Plan and act at your time, The perfect moment doesn't exist, you need to create it"

Expect the best for yourself!!

How do you deal with burnout? What helps to get your creative drive back?

Thats a tough question...

When I get tired, I usually take my time to rest, and if I want inspiration I tend to watch what inspires me the most:

Drawing videos, listening to music or watching my favorite anime, I apreciate the colors and the expression. That recharges my batteries and inspires me to draw again!

You're a demo user! What you're able to do with such a small window to draw is incredibly impressive! You seem to know how to get around the Colors Live demo limitations quite well. Would you say the limitations of the demo have helped you to become more efficient as an artist because the time limit forces you to do more with less time? What are your tips for artist would spend too long on art or can't accomplish as much in such a small time frame?

It's a pleasure!

It's definitely helped me bencome faster, both in drawing and strokes, digital coloring, and in knowing how to make my paintings stand out!

Tips:

If you have a demo, forget about detailed line art here! (although it's not impossible either...)

Focus on simplifying things, choose 3 to 5 colors (Base colors, shadows, highlights)

Try to communicate your idea in a easy way. Try all the brushes to see wich one work best for you.

If you need time to think, use the break to rest. It's all about simplifying things!

Practice is the key!

Nature or nurture?

Nature? Hahaha!

Many things influenced my growth, as an artist and human. I can say that I was not born with talent but with intelligence!
