Colors Gallery, meet C-Rhythm

@C-Rhythm is self-taught artist with an eye for realism and an ear for music! You could say that they bring a sense of rhythm to the gallery... Now let's "C" what they're all about!

Tell us about yourself! Who are you? Give everyone a feel of your rhythm! Where did you get your start?

"Hey! I am C-Rhythm, I’m currently a college student studying computer science living in
the U.S. I got my start with art when I was only 8 years old! I remember getting an Art
Academy game on the DSi and it taught me a lot about blending colors. I also
discovered Flipnote Studio around that time, and I loved viewing other people’s
animations on the Flipnote Hatena community. There were some very talented people
on there who inspired me to create my own art."

You really excel at realism! How did you get so good? What inspired you and what are your motivations?

"I appreciate that! The main contributing factor in my development has been redrawing
things that I find interesting. I am often inspired by nature, music, and other artists. What
motivates me to create art is the fact that I am creative and I always need to be making
something. I am sure a lot of people on Colors can relate!"

How did you discover Colors Live? How does it fit into your workflow? Do you use any other mediums? Any features you'd like to see?

"I discovered Colors Live on the 3DS in 2014. I remember I was looking for another art
game after Flipnote Hatena shut down in 2013. I spent a lot of time experimenting with
different styles on the 3DS version of Colors, and I think it impacted how I draw today. I
decided to start uploading my realism paintings when the Switch version came out.
Besides Colors, I also make sketches and use ink pens. I actually have little experience
with painting, believe it or not!"

"I’ve mentioned animation a few times in my answers, so it may be obvious what feature
I would like to see in Colors. Although it may be a bit of a stretch, I think it would be
awesome to see an animation feature in Colors some time in the future!"

What's your worst fear? What's a fear you had but overcame?

"I think my worst fear would be if I were to look back at my life when I am elderly and see
that I could have done much more. A fear I have had but overcame was probably doing
a large 15 minute presentation for a class. It was daunting at first, but I worked hard and
I ended up doing well."

Colors art you're most proud of?

"I am most proud of my “Lars Homestead” painting. I have always been a fan of Star
Wars, and it was very fun to paint."

What are your top 3 favorite colors artworks?

"My number one favorite is “Ice Reach” by @Munin. My second favorite is “sunset with
river” by @Gaz bell. My third favorite is “Under the willow tree” by @SENCO."

Favorite artist on and off colors?

"This is a tough one, there are so many great artists on here! If I had to pick one, I’d go
with @Munin. For my favorite artist off Colors, I have to go with the classic Leonardo Da
Vinci."

C-Rhythm, eh? Are you into music? If so, what're you into? Do you play anything?

"I sure am! I am into many different styles, but I really love jazz, old school R&B, and neo
soul. My main instrument is drums, which I have played all of my life. I also play guitar,
bass, and piano. I produce music as well, so it is really helpful to know how to play
those instruments."

What advice would you give beginners when it comes to art? Especially when it comes to those who want to learn realism?

"When it comes to realism, my best advice is to be patient and don’t be afraid to redraw
something until it looks right. You must do this even if it takes hundreds of tries! If you
look at some of the replays of my earlier paintings, you can see that I will redraw
something until it looks how I want it. A huge part of it is trial and error."

What's the biggest hurdle you've had to overcome on your art journey?

"The biggest hurdle I’ve had to overcome is probably just the fact that I am self-taught. I
did not go to any art school, so I don’t have a trained or systematic way of going about
my paintings. This can also still be a strength in some ways, because my style may
have been completely different if I went to art school."

What should come first:
Technical skill or style?

"I believe style should come first. Even if you develop technical skill, your paintings may
not resonate with the viewer if there is no personality or individual style to the paintings.
I figured out that even if you try to learn by replicating some complex painting, there will
always be a little bit of you in that replication. That’s part of what makes you unique as
an artist."

If you could have lunch with any famous historical figure, who would they be and why?

"I would have lunch with Leonardo Da Vinci. He had a vast amount of knowledge on
many different subjects, and it would be interesting to see how his mind works."

Anyone you want to shout-out?

"I had a tough time picking my favorite Colors artist, so I’d like to shout out some
honorable mentions: @Papercut, @goosekeeper, @brettzter. Thanks again for
featuring me as artist of the week!"
