Colors Gallery, meet -Vero-

@-Vero- is a very awesome anime artist known for their cool fanart and characters. Now it's time for their fans to get to know more about them!

We're very excited to interview you -Vero-! Tell us about you! Who're you? What do you want to share about yourself?

"'Ello! I'm Vero! I'm a self taught-artist, though, as a homeschooler, I'm kinda self-taught in most everything, in a way."

"I'm also a bit of a performer, singing in my church choir and dancing with my family at heritage festivals."

Illiterate by -Vero-

What's something that you've always wanted to try but haven't yet?

"There are many things, but the first one to come to mind was skydiving!"

Something tells me you're an anime fan! Is this true? What are your inspirations?

"Even though my style is pretty much an anime/manga style, I don't tend to watch or read them much. (Not to say I don't enjoy doing so) I'd say my style is more influenced by the J-RPGs or other games I play. I'm a pretty big gamer, which one can probably see if they pay close attention to my gallery."

When did you Colors Live and and what made you join our community? What drew you in?

"I was introduced to Colors back in the fairly early days of it being on the 3DS. My siblings showed it to me, and well, wasn't long till it was my constant companion. As for Colors Live, I found it while looking on the Switch eshop, hoping to find something like Colors 3D. So finding it again was a very nice surprise!"

"Back when I first got Colors 3D, I was amazed by the great art I saw and really wanted to join, but I couldn't due to not having an email, nor access to the internet. However, when I found the Switch version, those things were no longer an issue, so I thought I'd test the waters, so to speak, and try posting my art."

Do you draw using any other software or mediums? Any features you want to see in Colors Live in the future?

"I have a few art programs on my phone and computer, but don't use them much because they aren't very comfortable or convenient for me. I do draw using pencil and paper, and frequently find myself doodling on sticky notes with whatever pen I find closest."

"As for features, I, like many others here, like Colors for it's simplicity. It makes it easy to jump right in. So I'd really just like some quality of life improvements."

A few examples being:

The Select & Move tool and Flood Fill tool having a "Select from Selected layers" button

Being able to see how many Superlikes I can currently give out.

And (as redundant as this is) a place on the gallery where we can go back and check out previous Artists of the Week interviews.

What Colors art of yours are you most proud of and why?

That's a hard one. I have several I'm quite pleased with. Keeping it to a few of them, I'd have to say:

Bright Day, because the shading and expression came out really well.

DTIYS WIP (the finished one ?) because is looks like something for an actual anime.

Ruthless, because I rarely do angles, lighting and expressions like that and it came out really well despite that, and Edgey Boi, even though I can notice some anatomy issues with it now, I'm still very pleased with it because I showed everything I wanted to and I think it looks like a professional reference sheet.

Top 3 favorite Colors artworks?

たいいくのせんせい by @garasya .I really like the character's design, all the details, and the picture's dynamic composition.

Miidiocre artist by @The_Adjudicator
He really captured the Mii's and Mii channel's look, and mixed with the stark contrast of the realism, it comes together for a high quality image and a funny word play.

Salamander Boi @-Ames-
He's the first character I ever received, and helped re-spark my drive for creating and working with stories. So he's very special to me.

Favorite artist on and off Colors Live?

"On Colors, it's @garasya . I found them when I first got Colors 3D, and have looked up to them ever since."

"Off Colors, I really admire the paintings by the 19th century painter Carl Heinrich Bloch. I've always been amazed by the photo like quality of them. I also admire Tetsuya Nomura's distinct and bold style of line art, as well as his very recognizable shading."

I've been browsing your gallery and I have to say I think your one of the artists I've seen improve the fastest! What's your secret? What is the key to improving fast outside of constant practice?

"Really? Thank you! I think part of it is that I could already draw pretty well on paper, I just had to get used to the digital space, and what I could do in it. Aside from that, I think two big things that help are, constantly trying new things, and learning how to self-critique."

"Trying new things is a good way of expanding one's style and seeing what does and doesn't work. So look around, see something you like and see if you can replicate it, and if you fail a time or two, that's normal. It's all part of learning!"

"Self critique allows one to find what is bothering them about a picture. Many artist's have a moment where something bothers them but they don't know what or how to fix it. Honestly, it's easy to start, but hard to master. However the payoff? Super worth it, so I recommend everybody try it out."

What plans do you have for the near or far future?

"For the near future, I want to start selling my art either by stickers and keychains, or through commissions. I've also been trying to get better with modeling, so hopefully I can see my characters move and come alive!"

"In the more distant future, I'd like to get my characters and their stories published either as mangas or games. Possibly even both if I could."

What's your typical artistic process? What are your go-to tools in Colors Live?

"I don't think of it much, so it's a bit weird to do. I don't I have any hard fast rules, but I usually start with a sketch/doodle and from there either I line it, or just clean up the sketch. After that, I add the color, shading and highlights."

My go to's are:
The Sketch brush for sketching, lining, and even some coloring.

Classic hard, for coloring, shading, highlights, and blending.

And the Select and Fill, for coloring, lining on occasion, and working on or in small details.

Are most of your characters originals? What can you tell us about them? Any lore you can share?

"The characters in my OC tag are either, original designs that I may do something with in the future, or characters that I am working with for the stories in my head. The back stories vary, and not all of them are in the same story or world."

"I have quite a few stories and OCs, so I'm going to keep it to a few."

"Lucious and Kyra are performers, however, I don't have much of a story there yet."

"Kai is the son of the Salamander chief, and lives on a secluded volcanic island. He dream's of seeing the wider world, but there was a reason he was kept hidden from it..."

"And Frost is investigating strange occurrences that break the boundaries between worlds and times."

Anyone you want to shout out?

"I'd like to shout out to my family, notably my sister, for not letting me give up on art when I was 5, and @-Verus- for critiquing my art and helping me get better all these years."

"I'd also like to shout out to @razrdraws for helping me feel welcome in this community when I first started, and to my friends I've made and met here, @-Ames- ? @Heroine-of-Winds ? @Wind_Waker ? @-Kitty- ? @MaggieSue327 ? and @-Howl- ?"

That wraps up our interview with @-Vero- ! The Colors Team would like to thank you for your time! We're very excited to see what you make in the future! Everyone keep up with them!
