Colors Gallery, meet sunnysidesadness22

@sunnysidesadness22 has a bubbly artstyle that brings 100% sunshine and 0% sadness! And if that didn't attract you to their gallery, their bright disposition will surely do the rest! The sun shines on them now so let's get to know them!

The sun is shining on you @sunnysidesadness22 ! What does it shine some light on? Who're you?

"Hi! I'm Sunny, I'm a young artist in high school. I love being around my family and friends, and spending time on my computer! My family's pretty nerdy so I've grown up with anime and videogames! While other kids my age were watching Disney, I was watching My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, spending hours with my best friend doodling in notebooks. I have four cats and I love them all so much! Being with them is one of the best parts of my day."

What brightens up your day most? What are your biggest motivations and inspirations? What is your burning passion and what first ignited it?

"I started drawing after my parents got me the first Warrior Cats book. I loved drawing all the cats in the books and making my own! YouTube also played a part, I loved watching other artists post videos and saying, "I want to do that!" Nowadays YouTube is still a huge part of my life. I've gotten comments before saying my art looks like GinjaNinjaOwO's art, and that's because they're my biggest inspiration!! Their art style is just the coolest thing to me and I wish to one day be as good at art as they are."

So how did you discover Colors Live? What made you start posting and what have you learned since you joined?

"I learned of it through a real-life friend. We met on the first day of freshman year, and are good friends to this day! they mentioned Colors Live, and it just went from there. I've learned a lot since joining, the limited tools on Colors Live have taught me how to work with what I have in creating art, and it's helped a lot with finding my art style!"

Do you use any other software or mediums? How does Colors fit and is there anything from other apps you'd eventually want to see here?

"I use Clip Studio Paint when I'm not drawing on CL. Colors surprised me when I first got it, it's not often you see such a simple program with stuff like transparency locks and lighting tools! while Colors Live Is solid, I'd love to see a custom canvas size option, as well as more layers per drawing! I'd also love more pen options, like a blending brush or custom brushes!"

Favorite artworks of yours? What're you most proud of and why?

"My favorite artwork is probably the piece that is currently my profile picture on Colors! I love the shading I did in that piece, it took me ages!"

SunnySideSadness by sunnysidesadness22

Who're your favorite artist on and off Colors Live? How do they brighten up your day and what have you learned from them so far?

"I've already mentioned GinjaNinja, but some of my favorite Colors artists have to be @alrightymoose, @sharp_eyed_detetcive, @Pepperdraws, @FrenchToast, and just so many more!!!"

Top 3 favorite Colors Live artworks?

"Hmmm, My artwork of Hex and Atari, The piece I did for moose's DTIYS, and of course the piece I mentioned above."

I have to say, your style is definitely one of the most distinct I've seen in a good while! How did you develop it? Also what're your tips for artist who're still discovering their identity? How does one become a distinguished artist in your experience?

"I took elements I liked from artists I look up to! The webcomic app, Webtoon, also helped a lot! I had access to so many comics drawn by other artists, that I could zoom in on each panel and study how they would draw bodies and shade."

"My #1 tip for other artists is to keep your anatomy loose! Drawing jagged perfect shapes as a guideline to the body can make your art stiff! blobby vague shapes help with learning how each part of the body is truly shaped and add fluidity and movement! In my experience, to become a distinguished artist, you need to believe in yourself. It sounds kind of corny, but for so long I was so unhappy with my art."

"You need to believe that even if your art right now isn't where you want it to be, it will get there eventually if you keep drawing. not everything you draw will be perfect or your best piece ever, sometimes you just gotta let it be ugly, it's so freeing. So I believe a distinguished artist knows that if they draw one bad piece it doesn't make them a bad artist!"

Any plans for the short term or long term future? What are you most ambitious about?

"I've posted my OCs on here a lot, and I've been kind of vague about what I want to do with them. I plan to one day make their story into something everyone can enjoy. My true dream is to make a TV show for them, or even a comic, or a book. I just want to create and tell stories."

How you draw your characters is pretty adorable! Do they have any lore? How do you usally come up with characters?

"Gosh, my characters have so much lore, it is way too much to post in this interview, but I have some small chunks and plan to post more lore on my gallery!"

"Along with storytelling, character design is one of my favorite creative outlets. My main characters you see posted on here a lot, all actually started out as me messing around with character creators like Picrew and Gacha Life years ago."

"With my main OC Cameron, I made him on a Picrew, and liked his design so much I started to draw him myself. all of my characters have come so far from paper doll game days, some of them are completely unrecognizable! Nowadays when I get an idea for a character it starts out as a very vague idea, sorta like "Oh, I could make a character based on this animal" or I get ideas from characters in games or shows."

What advice would you give to yourself from 5 or more years ago if you could?

"That when I draw, I don't need to focus on making what's "right". I'd always get hung up on having to draw things how they are in real life. when drawing, you can make up stuff, not everything needs to look "real" or true to its form on earth. let loose and have fun with drawing."

Now for the most important question: how do you like your eggs? Sunnyside up?(usually I prefer scrambled myself)

"I love my eggs scrambled, but a Sunnyside up egg is a close second! As long as my eggs aren't runny!"
