@st5rb0und is an amazing artist, a programmer and is truly one of the brightest stars in the Colors Gallery! They are the twin sister of @sharp_eyed_detective who was our 12th artist of the week and just like their sis their amazing artwork has stolen our hearts! No more wasting time, let's get to the interview!
@st5rb0und you're the star of the show! Tell us about yourself! Who're you and how did you get your start?
"First of all, thank you for creating this amazing community - the people in it are the real stars! And of course the incredible Colors! Team, thank you very much for allowing 3ds users to connect to the gallery despite the closure of online services!"
"I am a 22 years old self-taught artist who is passionate about video games, programming and drawing. I'm amazed at how well my hobbies combine to create characters and stories with my older sister. I am very fortunate to share these hobbies with her and I admire her greatly!"
"My path in digital art started with this drawing software on the 3ds platform, which is the one I still use today. I usually draw fanart of my favourite videogames, and drawings of some thief-themed original characters I created with my sister. This way I think I keep a constant flow of users who are interested in my content, since I combine the above mentioned themes."
The night they met! by st5rb0und
You have such an awesome artstyle that's quite distinct but also in some ways similar to your sister @sharp_eye_detective who was our 12th artist of the week! Did you two have similar influences? Did you mostly push and inspire each other as artist? Who began their air journey first?
"Well, some users have even told me that me and my sister have quite similar art styles, and they are right! After all, we have grown up with very similar likes, watched same cartoons, played same videogames, same hobbies… And of course we inspire and support a lot each other as really good sis! When we where younger my sister drew A LOT, I mean she was always drawing and filled a lot of notebooks with her cute and sweet doodles."
"She also made me a lot of drawings about my favorite videogames and I still keep them nowadays with all the love of my heart. I was too lazy for drawing (yup, that's true) and I made less drawings when I was little, but I've been drawing all my life. Thus, our real start in the art world was with the entry into digital art, thanks to Colors!3d for Nintendo 3ds in the early 2014-2015."

You've been uploading since 2015 so you have been with our lovely community for almost a decade! How did you discover the Colors Live community? What's made you stick around all this time?
"Omg, it's been so long, haha, time flies when you are having fun in a cool community as this one! I remember one day I was browsing the already gone 3ds eShop looking for some game demos to pass time, when I saw the Colors!3d program and immediately loved it."
I told my sister about getting the program and since then, we were obsessed with getting an eShop card to buy it. Finally, some months later, we got one for our birthday, so we went head first for the Colors!3d and I can say without a doubt, it was a good investment! Once I started drawing in a digital workspace I met a lot of sweet and kind people around here and I started to draw more frequently than I usually did."
Thank you! (3d) by st5rb0und
Do you use any other software or mediums? How does Colors Live fit into your process? Are there any features in Colors Live that you've wanted to see?
I like to classify the drawings I do into Digital Art and Pixel Art.
♦ For the first one, the only program I use nowadays is Colors!3d, because I think it's a very intuitive tool and it contains the basics I need to make a drawing at any time of the day. Besides, the format that 3ds itself has with its two screens seems perfect to me, and the closest thing to a notebook that can be found on the market. Moreover Colors!3d, I've also tried some other tools like IbisPaint or ClipStudio (hehe, I've borrowed it from my sister some times) but I haven't found them as comfortable as this version of Colors. Besides, when I finish a drawing, I publish it quickly in the gallery and I can download it easily from my mobile phone to share it on social networks, which I think is wonderful.
♦ As for the second type of art I do, which is Pixel Art, it's not viable for me to do it from my 3ds, so I use Aseprite on my computer. I know that the Nintendo Switch version of Colors has a pixel brush, so I'll have to take a look at acquiring the program...
If you are curious about the little animations and illustrations I do in that style, you can have a look here: https://www.deviantart.com/st5rb0und
Finally, assuming that there will be no updates for the 3ds version, and not knowing all the new features that the switch version brings, I can't answer that question! But I'm sure new features can be added to help artists create masterpieces. I have to try the demo!
What Colors art of yours are you the most proud of and why?
Hey! This is the most difficult question of the interview! … Let’s see!
1) dirty thief!... by st5rb0und
I really love how this drawing of my characters turned out, because I think it perfectly captures the personality and awkwardness that characterizes them. I also like the colors I used and the glows I added.
2) Broken inside (3d) by st5rb0und
I remember that I spent a lot of time painting the pieces of glass and choosing the right palette of colors for the idea I wanted to transmit with this drawing, so I think it deserves to be here.
3) Wolf Link and Midna by st5rb0und
As a good Zelda fan from a very young age, I feel I must include this drawing because of the dedication I put into coloring Midna's and wolf Link's hair. These characters are amazing, and I think I made them as bright and detailed as they deserve.
Top 3 favorite Colors artworks?
There are true masterpieces published in the gallery that stuck in my mind the first moment I saw them. I encourage you to take a look at these jewels.
Your theives under the #levenSB#chaseSB and #spadeSB are really stealing a lot of peoples hearts! How and when did you come up with them? Are you doing any sort of comic similar to your sister?
"Hahaha, you are all going to laugh at this. I created them just to antagonise my sister! She created a police/detective unit, so it was my duty to do the opposite by creating a gang of criminals. I also wanted to add a touch of humor so that people would smile at their clumsiness, so I created Chase ( #chaseSB ) and Leven ( #levenSB ), the chaotic duo, masters of carelessness! Later, thinking about their background story, I came up with Spade ( #spadeSB ), that I'm still working on integrating into the world of my characters."
"I once tried to make a comic, but I realized that it wasn't my thing. So a few months ago, I started a small project I'm really excited about and I hope to complete one day: It's a small videogame of my characters! I'm going to share some screenshots of what I've done so far, although it's still far away from being something playable. Of course, Neo and the gang are there too ( @sharp_eyed_detective ‘s OCs)."

I'm out! (3d) by st5rb0und
How did you develop your style? One thing I really appreciate about your artwork is how you do anatomy, how you color, and how you don't shy away from perspective shots as well! Any tips for people who aren't as far in their artist journey?
"I guess the key to success is trial and error. Everything related to anatomy was taught to me by my sister. You have to pay attention to the volumes and associate them to a shape, for example, the shoulders are circles, and the arms are formed by 2 cylinders. Once you see it, you just have to connect all the shapes."
"The perspective is more of the same, only the proportions of the objects change to give a sense of closeness and depth. Finally, and with total sincerity, I don't know how I pick the colors, they are simply the ones that the drawing asks for. Generally I tend to pick very sharp colors, which are the ones that attract the most attention."
"So don't worry if you don't like the results of your work, just enjoy the process, and without realizing it you will have defined your style, at least that's what happened to me, hahaha."
You're a software engineer! How did you get your love for programming? Is there anything you've programmed so far or want to program? Is programming one of those things that is hard to combine with other hobbies/professions or does it enable you to do more?
"YESSSS!!! I graduated a few months ago, and I am very happy with that achievement. I have always been interested in the world of computers, especially software, so as soon as I had the opportunity, I started learning programming. I think it's a very powerful and incredible tool that allows you to do anything you can imagine."
"Today I can say that I have programmed a simple shooter-arcade game with my sister and a very good friend from University about a cowboy who has to save the valley from wild animals, called "Saving The Valley"."
You can find some screenshots here (“Saving The Valley” folder): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Pxl3fcF2_xR1_HtVtkI1s2nIQepVwiYb?usp=sharing
"And I hope I’ll do many more things, of course! Unfortunately, in my job I am in front of the computer all day long, and that makes my eyes very tired, so I don't do as much as I would like to :( ."
What're your goals and plans for the future?
"In the future I would love to keep drawing a lot, play a lot of videogames and of course, make my own one day. So wish me luck with my dream!"
What's another interesting fact about you that hardly anyone knows?
"I guess it's already known that @sharp_eyed_detective and I are twins, so I'm going to surprise you with the fact that I’m a VERY sleepy person and my love for cactus plants. I'm a big fan of these plants so I have my room full of them, and now, close to summer, they have spectacular flowers!"
Do you and your sister ever get the "artist questions"? You know the "Can you draw me?", "Can you make a portrait?" and " Can you make me a poster?" type questions?
"Of course, but I don't usually accept everyone’s! I'd love to accept them all but if I did I wouldn't sleep. So I only accept requests from the people who are closest to me and who regularly follow my work. I am generally a person with very little free time, sorry guys!"
Anyone you want to shout-out?
