Colors Gallery, meet ohinasan_0173

@ohinasan_0173 truly has an eye for composition despite having being not being in high school yet! Despite their young age they already have showcased their immense talent that is worthy of admiration! And did you know that their name is based on the Hinamatsuri event in Japan? Let's learn more about this spectacular young artist in this interview!

@ohinasan_0173 everyone has their eye on you! Care to tell us about yourself? Who are you?

"I'm Ohinasan. Please call me Ohina or Hina. 0173 is a pun in Japanese and can be read as "Ohinasan." I’m a Japanese student."

. by ohinasan_0173

I love and many others love the compositions in your works! How did you get so good at your style? What are you biggest inspirations and how did they influence your current art style? When did your art journey begin?

"When I was little, I dreamed of becoming an actress or model, so I collected model magazines and fashionable clothes. The models have many ideas to bring out their best features. For example, gaze, facial expression, pose, etc. Maybe I picked up the compositional skills and art style from looking at so many of those photos."

"My mother loved to draw, and I tried to emulate her from an early age. So I've been drawing ever since I was a child."

All of your anime art is spectacular! If you had to chose, which ones would be your favorite? What were the biggest challenges when creating them?

"Paintings selected for Colors News! I'm convinced it's the best one I've ever done. I'm always conscious of increasing the "resolution" and "amount of information" in my arts. Let me give you an example, notice her hand touching the eyepatch. Can you see the faint of an eyepatch string beneath her thumb? This plays an important role in bringing out the depth of the painting."

"I also created gradations without using an airbrush and added small strands of hair. In this way, attention to detail makes for a beautiful art. I always struggle to pay attention to these things."

"I saw Colors Live at the Nintendo Shop and bought it. What I like about Colors Live is that it allows me to easily interact with people from overseas."

Do you use any other software or mediums? How does Colors Live fit into your workflow and are there any features you want to see in the future?

"I'm sure there are lots of ideas for new features from users, but I'm happy with the current functionality."

What would you say is key to creating a solid composition? What should artist avoid when trying to master it?

"The key to coming up with a composition for a painting is that the fear of change should be avoided. On the contrary, it is important to continue to pursue possibilities and encounter many ideas. It is important to be exposed to many ideas and enrich the idea box in your memory."

The origin behind your name is very endearing! It must be quite unique to be names after the Hinamatsuri annual event! Can you you tell us more about it? What other interesting things should people who aren't too familiar with Japanese culture know?

"My name in kanji is "雛". This means "Girl's Festival" and "(as cute as) a chick." The name Hina is popular in Japan, but there are not many people with the same kanji as me. This may be because people have an image of it being Japanese and old-fashioned. But I love this kanji!"

As someone who grew up with some iconic one-eyed characters, I have to say your character #HaraMomji is quite cute and cool! How did you come up with her? Does she have a backstory or any important lore? Why does she wear an eyepatch? Did she lose an eye in a duel or in some sort of accident? Was she inspired by other eyepatch wearing characters?

"Actually, I designed her when I was in the third grade of elementary school. I designed it intuitively at the time, so there are no detailed settings."

MOMIJI by ohinasan_0173

Do you ever get burnt out from drawing too much? How do you handle creative burnout?

"Yes, Especially when I make a good art work like now, it's hard. I'm conscious of turning on the swich that motivates me to draw. I want to draw when I see cute clothes and cute models. So, I consciously look at them and get motivated. Being stimulated is an opportunity to draw a art!"

What advice do you have that you feel is crucial for up and coming artist? What should beginners take to heart and apply to every drawing they work on? If someone is feeling discouraged, what should they remember to help them overcome their anxiety?

"I gave a presentation at school on the theme of "Why do we have different art styles when we are the same person?" What I found out was that there are three elements that make a picture stand out. They are "Era", "Purpose" and "Interpretation".With the times, the fashion and common sense of art styles change."

"Depending on the purpose, people have different things they want to draw and what they want to convey.Depending on how we interpret it, people see the world from different perspectives.
I did an experiment in that presentation. I gathered my drawing friends and told them to "draw an apple." What kind of apple would you draw? The apples they painted were all different. Apples on the floor, apples on trees, cooked apples, apples cut in half, etc."

"Even with the same "apple", everyone had a different shape in mind. Some of them were similar, but none were exactly the same, with small leaves or a slightly different color of red. Everyone imagines an "apple" from a different perspective."

"You are the only one who was born somewhere in this era, who for some reason fell in love with drawing, and who saw the world with some purpose. Understand how precious and wonderful a miracle it is! There is no right or wrong way to draw. Sometimes people compare their abilities to others. But it's not comparable. Because it's one thing in the world that only you have."

"The picture is abstract. It's wonderful to be able to express art on a canvas that can't be solved in the brain. I think that if you don't give up and continue to pursue your potential, you will grow."

Style vs substance? Which is more important to you?

"Style!! Because there is no correct answer to that. I prefer to study free styles rather than being trapped by existing shapes."

Is there anyone you want to shoutout? Who else deserves some recognition?

"I think @modoroi_gaku is appropriate."
