Colors Gallery, meet lampyridae

@lampyridae lore is upon upon us! Like a lamp, they're here to cast light on themselves just as they've illuminated colors quest with so many awesome works of art! It's time to learn even more about them!

@lampyridae it's time for you to illuminate us! Shine a light on yourself! What do we need to know about you?

"Hey !!! I’m Lamp for short and Lampyridae for long and Lampyridaephobia for longer !! I’m a certified wire chewer and bug enjoyer and many other things."

What inspired your style? When did you begin drawing and initially what motivated you?

"I’ve been drawing for a long time, and first started making digital art when I got my first computer and discovered the wonders of Microsoft Paint. I was encouraged by my family and friends and started drawing on paper more often. As for my style, it mostly comes from my inability to draw smooth lines with my finger. I think jagged and varying line thicknesses make an artwork look more unique and eye catching, even if they take a bit longer to finish than smooth ones do."

How did you come across Colors Live? What were your initial thoughts and what made you join our community?

"I came across Colors Live after my friend @kaiisakaizi showed me one of his paintings from here. After a little bit of interrogation, he finally gave in and told me what program he used. I didn’t use Colors often at first because I was still using the demo, but after getting the full version, I started using it much more! The Colors community was pretty welcoming, and it’s cool to see artists of varying skill levels and talents come together on a single platform where they don’t have to worry about being screwed over by algorithms powered by biased AI."

Is Colors Live your only software? If not, what other software and mediums do you use? Is there any features you want to see in Colors Live in the future?

"I use a few different drawing softwares as well as plain old paper, but one of my favorites is an app called ToonSquid. It supports animation, both keyframing and frame-by-frame, and has so many amazing features; I just have to recommend it. One feature that I would love to see on Colors Live is a gradient fill tool, similar to the one found on Kleki.com It can be pretty difficult to create gradients on Colors, and I’m sure that lots of users would be greatly benefited if they had a tool like that at their disposal!"

What art of yours are you the most proud of?

It’s a tough pick, but I’m super proud of this one. I drew it for Colors Quest, and think it came out pretty good for the limited tools available! It became one of my most popular paintings in just a couple of days, which I think is really cool too.

Top 3 favorite Colors artworks?

It was hard to pick a specific artwork from this artist, but I chose this one because of the colors, the texture, and my once intense love for Pokémon.

Who're your favorite artist on and off Colors Live?

"My favorite artist on Colors would have to be @/gorgonzola. Their art is really cool, and I adore the way they portray themself in their paintings and how they texturize their artworks. Off colors, one of my favorite artists is Joy Ang. She’s the illustrator of the covers of my favorite book series and is an amazing artist with a gorgeous and captivating style."

I can't put my finger on it but something tells me that you like dragons a lot! But maybe it's just a hunch?

"Yes!! Dragons make up 90% percent of my artworks, mostly because of this book series I read when I was a little younger. Wings of Fire is pretty popular here on Colors, and I definitely recommend it to other young readers around my age!"

What advice do you have other artist?

"I think an important thing to remember when making art is to not restrict yourself to a certain style. Experiment and play with shapes and colors! Uniqueness and creativity are the most important aspects of creating art, so don’t limit yourself!"

Do you have any goals or plans for the future?

"I’m hoping to make a sci-fi spec evolution project exclusive to Colors where people will be able to make characters based on the alien species that I invented! I tend to lose motivation before completing my projects, so only time will tell if I actually go through with this or not."

What's the best way to deal with artistic burnout? How do you resist it?

"Usually when I’m burnt out I take a break from drawing for a while until I find motivation again. One thing that helps me get out of art block is scrolling through Pinterest or watching art-related YouTube videos!"

How important is shape language when it comes to character design in your opinion? What are some key elements people should focus on when designing a character?

"I think that shape language is pretty important, even though I haven’t quite mastered it yet. One thing that I usually prioritize when designing a character is a unique shape or color pallet that’s easily recognizable, no matter the style."
