Colors Gallery, meet gorgonzola

@gorgonzola is a lover of art, bioshock, music and their beloved beared dragon! It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone that they're our currently weekly artist! Now let's get to know them!

Tell us about yourself! What should we know about you?

"My name is Atlas. I'm 26, Canadian, fanartist mostly. I like the colour yellow. I like spooky stuff and big old monsters!"

What are your biggest inspirations? What makes you want to draw?

"I listen to a lot of music and I play a lot of video games. Both of which inspire me to create. There's nothing like listening to a good song and imagining a video game character getting into situations. When I was a kid I played a lot of Pokemon and that inspired me to draw from the start."

How did you discover Colors Live? How do you feel about the community?

"I bought colors!3d on the 3ds back in 2014 but I never uploaded any artwork. (I was a very shy kid). Then I came across the kickstarter for colors live a couple years ago and i thought I'd give it a go. I think the community is very welcoming, I've always felt comfortable."

Any features you want to see in Colors Live in the future?

"The ability to crop the canvas would be great."

I don't know but something tells me you REALLY like BioShock (fellow fan here)! What do you have to say? What do you like about it? Would you visit Rapture if you had the chance?

"Haha, yes, I really enjoy bioshock! The atmosphere, the music, the underwater sea life, everything is just so nice! My brother played it a lot when i was a kid so it's also very nostalgic for me. The opening cutscene has stuck in my head since I saw it for the first time when I was 10. I don't think I would ever visit Rapture if I had the chance though, even in it's prime."

You have a bearded dragon? What's it like to care for one( sorry about the sonar pen cord)? What can you tell us about yours ? I've always been somewhat interested in getting a gecko myself.

"So wonderful! They're such funny creatures and in my opinion, very affectionate. She had her own special quirks and would love to sit outside with me and listen to the wind and the birds. I had a tower of comic books that she would constantly throw herself onto which made me laugh. If you're interested, I say go for it! Do some research into what they need to live comfortably and they'll be your best friends."

Colors art you've made that you're the most proud of and why?

"The one I did of all my favourite books. I don't venture into realism too often, it was just a spur of the moment thing and I really think I nailed the look I wanted."

I love how you use the pixel brush to create a textured look in your colors art! How did you come up with that? What are your go to tools in Colors Live and what other software/mediums do you use?

"Thanks. I was trying to make it look like TV static, but I realised it looked like a neat texture instead so I just kept it haha. I like the pixel brush, the sketch and the classic hard, on a lower opacity for the latter. I also use Paint Tool SAI and aseprite."

Do you have any ambitions and goals for the future?

"Maybe someday I'll become an illustrator!"

Any advice you can give about art for beginners or artists of all skill levels?

"Use references. Your memory is not perfect, even if you see the same thing everyday."

What are you thankful for?

"I'm thankful I have a roof over my head and a steady job. A family and my eyesight."

Anyone you wish to shout-out?

@-starlight- , @sharp_eyed_detective , and if I may, @bytwistwood on instagram!
