@chid0 is quite new to the the Colors Gallery and painting on small screens but not to creating fantastic art that inspires and motivates others! They also just came back from sailing so it's time to find out how their trip went and to get to know them better!
Tell us about yourself! Who is chid0? What is your origin story?
"It's hard! If I were to summarize, Id'd say Chid0 is a very introverted hardcore nerd :) I love all things high voltage (I collect ceramic insulators), am way too much into radioactivity for my own good, including but not limited to going to explore Chernobyl a few years back. I love brutalist architecture, gardening, Japanese cuisine, playing Pokemon, crocheting and sailing - and, of course, drawing! I was blessed to be able to pursue my dream career and become a genetic engineer, but the stresses of the academic life brought about me developing severe social anxiety to the point I have not been able to work or do many other things I took for granted. The way to recovery has been slow, but it gives me an opportunity to rediscover my love for art!"

You have a lot of fantastic art! What inspired you and your style? How did you develop it?
"My art style has been changing wildly throughout my life, but since I started drawing at a very young age (four or five?) it always felt natural to me to do it, like breathing. I was definitely most productive in my teens, lots of stories and characters in my head that art let me come to life and keep me company in an otherwise quite lonely childhood. I was influenced a lot by mangaka like Yoshitoshi ABe and Kaori Yuki, and slowly branching out into more and more traditional media. From colored pencils through inks, COPICs, all the way to acrylics and watercolor. Now, I am starting to move more into drawing scenes and backgrounds, and starting to think about what my art has been lacking since I never put much conscious effort into learning. Trying to widen my horizons, essentially - and Colors is a part of that!"

You're pretty new to the gallery! What brings you to Colors Live? What motivated you to join our community? What's your impression of it?
"I'm generally very new to digital art in general. I dipped my toes in it before on a tablet but it felt too overwhelmingly complicated to use and didn't vibe with the way I approach art - quick and loose, enjoying the process more than the result. Colors in contrast felt much more approachable: though the tiny screen felt limiting at first, the functions were so intuitive and easy to learn that I grew to like it almost immediately. It's the limited features (compared to "proffessional" software) that make using Colors fun for me. I get to draw and have fun instead of having to worry about layers and transparency and brush settings! The fact that apart from it being a tool, it's also a place for artists to share what they create is neat - especially since you can look how others go about it with the replay feature. It's also a huge source of inspiration to be part of the community - doing a DTIYS or art trades give me an opportunity to be inspired by others, not something I get to experience otherwise!"
How did you discover Colors Live? What are your thoughts about the community? Any features you would like to see in the future?
"I came across Colors randomly while browsing the Switch online store and got super curious - how can you draw using a pen that plugs in where the headphones go? you draw directly on the screen?? there's pressure sensitivity??? It seemed both intriguing and a very affordable way to try dabbling in digital art, so I ordered a physical copy and it sat in my games drawer for a year almost untouched... until I decided to give it a try during a particularly stubborn art block a few months back and got hooked. It was spring time so there wasn't one, but two quests to do! Doing quick drawings, with set limitations, a given theme - it turned out to be the perfect thing to drag me out of the art block. It's still my favorite feature of Colors, so more quests please! That would definitely be the feature I'd love to get more of in the future, maybe with different themes? The fact that you get to see others tackling the same challenges during their own quest adventure is a cherry on top, really - due to my mental health issues, I don't get to engage with other artists much since I don't use any social media, but Colors lets me do that to some extent without me feeling too overwhelmed."
Colors art you're most proud of?
I think that has to be "brave traveller"
"I feel like I took the most advantage of the things I love most about Colors, and it let me express myself without getting bogged down by trying to make everything perfect or spending too much time figuring out how to do something the way I wanted it to be - yet the result ended up looking surprisingly realistic!"
Top 3 Favorite Colors artworks?
Gosh, I only get to pick three? In that case... probaby these:

Favorite Colors and non Colors artist?
If I am forced to pick only one, it would be @Atarute

Favourite non-Colors artist is definitely the Hong-Kong-based freelance artist and streamer pikat - I had the privilege to watch her grow and work hard to improve, and her creativity and sheer joy she puts into her art is amazing and very inspiring to me! (...am I allowed to link to her art? if so: https://www.artstation.com/pikat)
Nature vs nurture?
"What if I said there was a third option? Seriously, though I think talent definitely does exist, nurture - that is, putting conscious effort into studying principles and approaching art as a craft rather than innate skill - does matter more in my opinion. The most important though, a third option so to speak, I think has to be "motivation"! When you love to do something, enjoy the process of putting idea to paper (or tablet!), you'll keep doing it and will improve no matter the talent you were born with or the theory you studied. Have fun, stay motivated, the rest will follow!"
How do you deal with art block?
"I succumb to it completely! Since I am not a proffessional, nor do I have any other obligation to produce art, though I miss being able to do it, there's no urgency in overcoming the art block. I do get it a lot since I am constantly doubting my ability and have a very love-hate sort of relationship with my art (I love the process, the results less so), but I've learned to take the art blocks as an opportunity to focus on my other hobbies instead. If I do want to break out of the art prison, turns out Colors is a great way to do it for me personally! This is of course a very individual thing, but the limited time and set theme of a quest drawing takes a lot of the pressure to perform off of my shoulders."
Any advice you would like to give to beginner artist? What about general life advice?
"Do what you enjoy doing! There's always going to be pressure to draw a certain way, stick to certain subjects, avoid others... people have lots of opinions on how "art" should and should not look like. But in the end, I think art is a very personal thing, and there is no right and wrong way to do it - make it your own, and enjoy yourself! You can always build on that if you want down the line. Honestly, staying true to yourself would be also my life advice as well, outside of art I've made the mistake of always trying to please everyone throughout my own life, instead of learning to accept myself as who I was - and am!"
You recently went on a sailing trip didn't you? How exciting! Mind telling us about it ? What else are you willing to share about yourself?
Despite my health issues, I am privileged to have people in my life who support and care for me, thus it is possible for me to pursue one of my dreams I had since I was a child! Despite being born and growing up in a landlocked country, I've always loved the sea and sailing. I am lucky to be able to co-own a small sailboat and go on two or three voyages every year. Turns out it is a hobby very compatible with my social anxiety - there's just you, water, wind...
quest: beginning by chid0
What goals do you have for the future?
That's a difficult question to answer! Probably my biggest goal is to become more comfortable with who I am and find my place in the world.
I always accidentally read the your username as Child-0(you saw and pointed out my typo). How did you come up with that name? And am I the only one that reads it wrong?
"Admittedly, you are the first person to read it as Child-0 :) it's a nickname I now have for the majority of my life, and it's so ingrained that at this point probably just my own mother calls me by my actual name. It started out as "chidori" in my teens, given to me by a friend, and ended up sticking, eventually shortened to chido. I like it, I always think of the Japanese kimono pattern "chidori" (meaning "a thousand birds")."
Anyone you want to shout-out?
"Oh definitely! Apart from you - and the Colors team in general, for making an effort to foster a community within Colors, I have to mention @immortaleyes, someone who made me feel very welcome here on Colors right after I joined and still inspires me with enthusiasm and creativity whenever I see their art and engagement!"
