Colors Gallery, meet Watercolour

@Watercolour overflows with artistic talent, optimism, and a skill for coloring that really lives up to their name! Surely learning from them would help to keep your style fluid and loose! Now let's quench our thirst for knowledge and get to know them!

Water you waiting for @Watercolour ? Introduce yourself! Who're you and what should everyone know?

"Hello there, everyone! My name is Watercolour, and I'm a teenager who's been with this fantastic community since 2020! My hobbies are reading, drawing, and playing instruments."

You really live up to your name @Watercolour with how lovely your coloring is! What were your inspirations that helped you develop your coloring skills? What's your process?

"If I remember correctly, I wanted to improve my coloring ever since I first joined. I took art classes in hopes of improving my skill, and it seems the end result has paid off. I remember one my biggest inspirations on Colors being @candle, a user who's sadly removed all of their art. I believe that my interest in smudge shading stemmed from their old drawings."

"Related to my process, I use a lot of blending. I rarely use 100% opacity nowadays, even in my line art!""

What led you to discover our humble community? What made you stick around?

"I remember way back in 2019 I was looking around on the 3DS eShop for drawing games, when I stumbled upon Colors!3D. I drew on it all the time, but didn't make my account until I was 13 in 2020. Since then, I've adored the simplicity of this app along with the kind, sweet members of its community. Since then, I've switched to the iOS version of Colors."

"I think I'm still here after all this time because I feel so welcomed here. Everyone here is so sweet and kind, I can't thank everyone enough for their never ending love and support."

With your name being @Watercolour I'm assuming that you're quite fond of using traditional watercolors with drawing or painting on paper. Do you often use traditional drawing tools or other software? How does Colors Live fit into your process and is there anything features you want to see in Colors Live in the future?

"That's a fantastic guess! I chose this username because watercolor is one of my favorite art mediums. Watercolor paintings have such a majestic and whimsical feel to them. I also enjoy the way the word itself sounds! Typically, I make my traditional drawings with graphite pencils, which I try to imitate in my line art."

"I've pretty much grown up with Colors!3D, so I often feel like I'm too attached to it to let go. I've tried other software, but none of them have stuck the same way Colors has. When it comes to upcoming features, I'm pretty biased... as an iOS user, I just want to see some of the Switch features ported to my version."

Do you have a favorite among your current works of art? Which ones are you most proud of?

"Hmmm... That's a tough one. Where do I even begin?"

"I remember being incredibly proud of this drawing of Meta Knight, a character from Kirby. It's an old drawing, but it seems like a huge step up from my previous artworks."

"More recently, I'm proud of this drawing of these two characters talking about pizza. Everything came out excellently, from the smile of the red-haired character to the cute, worried expression of the black-haired one."

This picture is definitely one of my favorites. Just look at this adorable little Kiwi bird!

Another painting I enjoy is this one of a girl looking in a mirror. I feel like there's some sort of story being told here, which makes this painting all the more fascinating!

If you just took a glance through my likes, you'd notice I like a lot of scenery drawings. Skies are so pretty, I love how magical they are when illustrated!

Who are your favorite artist on and off Colors Live?

"On Colors, my favorite artists are @payasogato, @NekohiTetral, @kaiisakaizi, @TakeASlice, and @Elininjakat. All of these people have inspired me tremendously. Their art styles are fantastic, and I totally recommend that you check them out!"

"As for offsite artists, I really like the artworks of Snail's House and Si_ku, both are most known for their artwork done for albums. Finally, as to my favorite painter, I'll have to go with Luis Wain. I can't get enough of his many cat illustrations, they are so adorable!"

What are the dos and don'ts of coloring? What should people do to make their colors pleasant to look at and avoid to make them more appealing?

"There's a lot of different art styles that go by different rules, so I will use my own art style as a basis for my reasoning. When I draw, I use a lot of slightly muted colors, but whatever I do, I rarely highlight with whites and shade with blacks. Typically, my line art isn't black unless it's in a spot where there is plenty of depth or shadow."

"Many colors can be shaded using nearby colors, for example, I like to shade greens with blues and highlight them with yellows. There are plenty of guides on the internet which explain the process better than I could by providing visual examples."

"One of my favorite ways to color white is by giving it a slightly darker pink shade and a darker blue shade underneath that. You can see it most clearly in this drawing from 2022, depicting a clarinet woman."

What advice do you have for young artist or just advice in general?

"I... don't have any advice. I'm not interesting in pursuing art as a career, and I prefer using it as a hobby. I view art as something fun and subjective."

"However, I do think it's a good idea to use references for poses while drawing. It can help gain a sense of anatomy, and assist with more realistic posing in your drawings."

What helps you cool down after going through an artistic burnout?

"Usually, when I'm experiencing burnout, I focus my mind on other hobbies for a few days. Sometimes I switch from digital art to traditional art. Other times, I end up spending the majority of my free time playing video games or reading. Though I typically don't experience burnout unless I'm incredibly stressed or something, haha. Nevertheless, I usually end up getting back into drawing and posting digitally after I spend some time away from art for a few days."

Any plans for the near or far future?

"As a senior in high school, I'm often pressured to consider what I should do when I graduate. Unfortunately, I don't have any specific ideas as of yet... haha... For now, my rough idea is to take a gap year after high school. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go to college. I've heard nothing but good things about college and it's impact on people. However... I just feel so exhausted from all of these years of school. I want nothing more than a refreshing, long break."

With the presence of AI generated images growing what do you think modern artist should do to keep up change? How should we adapt?

"In order to conflict AI art, is it really necessary that we change or "adapt?" Artwork is perfect as is, because it's made by beautiful human minds, which ironically is exactly what AI artwork never gets right. Whenever artwork is made from a prompt, you can't feel the soul and care put into the results. However, many drawings that I see on here are bursting with love and effort. AI... is literally a robot. It can't feel, so it can't have the same passion that artists have towards their craft."

Discord question from @FrenchToast: questions for the lovely artist of the week.

1.) How did you become so sigma and unaffected by the brainrot?

2.)Are you Steve?

"Unfortunately the brainrot hit me hard... Shortly after the sigma face became a trend, I developed the fattest crush on the sigma male himself, Patrick Bateman .... But luckily I have recovered! Or I'd like to think I have...."

"I'd like to think I am... But my OC, Vsevolod Agapov, has already claimed that spot!"

Colors Gallery question from @Skunk-X-ApplePie:What would you say your artistyle is? Bubbly? Soft?

"Hmmm... You could consider my style either way. I'm glad to have it up to your interpretation, but this question has made me realize the contrast of my style. It's humble and soft, but lively and bubbly. Despite the slightly dull, muted colors, you can almost always see a character with an enthusiastic smile."
