Colors Gallery, meet Sandman_02

@Sandman_02 brings us a dream! Known for their fantasic pixelart recreations, this amazing artist has a gallery worthy of utmost admiration! The dream has become a reality! Let's get to know them!

Introduce yourself! What's the origin story of @Sandman_02 ?

"I named myself Sandman_02 because my name is Sandy, so my old friends called me Sandman and I kinda liked that and the 02 because I was born in 2002, sooo Sandman_02!
And other than that I don't think there is much of an origin ?!"

What would you say are your biggest inspirations? What makes you say "I feel like drawing today"?

"I get my 'Inspirations' from Pinterestb(obviously), I scroll a lot through that platform and everything that I like will be saved. You can probably imagine how full my account must be, with what I have saved I can bake, draw, crochet,... more then 5 livetimes ?!"

"I also get inspiration from emotion, like when I'm sad I want to draw something
that fits that mode (example 200: Girl in the bubble) and if I'm feeling good I want to draw something goofy (example 252: aaaand why should I care), but I also get inspiration from what I'm currently watching. If I watch something I kinda get the need to draw something from it (example literally every Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss drawing)."From where comes the feeling that I want to draw? ", drawing feels nice, it's distracting, soothing, calm and rewarding and kinda the only real hobby that I have. I tried and will try a lot of stuff but I easily get bored or fed up with stuff, but with drawing I gladly never had this problem, I mean except like burn outs but that's something different."

"You also can draw everywhere and I have a lot of problems that often prevent me from leaving my bed, so yeah! Because of that I also have a lot of free time and why not fill that with drawing!"

"All in all I just want to draw because it's kinda the best fitting hobby for me!"

How did you discover Colors Live? What made you decide to become part of our humble community?

"In 2020 I finally had the money to buy myself a switch and because I wanted one for years I knew exactly which games I want, so I bought those, which left me with no money but I already knew colors live existed, so it was on my list."

After birthdays and Christmases it was always a hard decision what to do with the money, so the decision to buy colors live was a hard one. Shortly after my 20th birthday I finally decided to buy colors live and oh boy I wish I had sooner. I mean I love drawing and I always wanted to try digital art, so actually I really don't have much of an idea why buying it took me so long, but now I have and I'm glad."

"With Zelda, Overwatch and Animal Crossing this is my most used software/ game and I'm quite happy with that. Also I didn't know that there was a community, that was just a very pleasant and welcoming bonus."

Do you use any other apps/mediums? How does Colors fit in? Any features that you'd like to see in a future update?

"I don't poses any other drawing device then the switch + colors live, except pen and paper. My mum actually poses a XPEN, I forgot which one but I never used it so I don't consider that and even tho I wish I had the opportunity I'm actually pretty happy with colors live!"

"I'm not "educated" in digital art "slang" but I know 3 tools that I think would be awesome!"

1. Circles & Co
Like you equip the tool and you can just make perfect circle with it, or other forms.

2. I believe it's called Lasso
You circle the area and only this area will be changeable.

3. Smoothing/ Wiping (?)
Like a pen that isn't colored that just
smoothes the color into each other.

"I hope it's understandable what I mean, at the end English is only my second
language ?!"

Colors art you're most proud of?

"Uh wow that's a tough question. Suprisingly more than I thought ?, but because I was pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to recreate it and then did a suprisingly good job, my "228: Daki and Gyutaro" drawing."

"I think the main reason why this drawing took me 27 hours, which is hilariously long, is because every pen stroke made me so incredibly nervous ?."

"So after thinking I would fail and then suprisingly making it, I would probably say this one.I also think in this drawing you can see my development, which gives it a nice bonus."

Top 3 favorite Colors artworks?

"Now this question is even tougher, because believe it or not I asked myself that question only 2 weeks ago, but with my top 10 and I still don't have an answer, but it seems like I have to decide now ?."

"My problem is there are actually a lot drawings that I really like. I like this one because cute. This one because it was hard to draw. This one because it's smooth. This one because funny."

So that's really a hard decision. But in this moment I think my top 3 are:

1. 228: Daki and Gyutaro

2. 111: Astarion

3. 161: Thank you.../ 290: Poison
161: Thank you...

290: Poison

"Sorry I really tried but I really can't decide between those two '-'But I really don't know, that's a really really tough question!"

Favorite artist on and off Colors Live?

"Many people! Some because they are really nice, some that just started but have so much potential, some because "ohhh my god how?!" and some even are all of those combined."

"But because I have to choose I would say @The_Adjudicator !"

"Because their art is so good, they are so nice, tries to help beginners or "struggling" artists with tips and co and really seem to care about this community, also they're pretty active."

"I hope nobody's mad, it was really a hard decision."

Your pixel recreations are spectacular! What's your usual process? How are you so precise? What makes you decide to recreate a specific painting?

"I find a Pin on Pinterest and if I like it and I
can imagine myself drawing it, I try to recreate it!"

"I don't think I do anything special, I'm actually pretty sure that everyone is able to do pixel art, it might takes a few drawings but it's easy to learn (hard to master)."

"Now creating pixel art on your own that is a different story, because that takes skills.
I tried to make my own but I don't quite get the hang of it, I do have some and also "normal" art, that I made myself but I'm not that confident enough to upload them, maybe some day!?"

"But yeah basically I just pick a drawing and then try my best to recreate it, I'm afraid there isn't much of a process or magic tip that I can give anyone."?

What made you get into pixel art recreations and pixel art in general?

"I saw a nice All might pixel art and I was like cool let me try this, what could go wrong. I made many mistakes, probably typical beginner mistakes, but still it was a lot of fun and it was a nice change for me."

"In my opinion Pixel art is simpler not as challenging as "typical Art", I mean it definitely can be challenging especially the bigger or realistic ones, but it kinda gave me break without the need to stop drawing."

"And then I did one after another and yeah so I kinda just slipped into pixel art and
now half of my gallery is filled with it!"

Any tips for rising artist or anyone of any skill level?

"Oh boy, I'm not the best or right person to give advice, so not really. Maybe practice a lot, even if you are afraid you might fail at it."

"If you want to draw something, draw it doesn't matter if other consider it "cringe" or weird. Find something you like or are good in or both and just draw the hell out of it.

"Don't compare yourself to others only with yourself, "how did your drawings look last year", "Are you better at drawing faces, clothing, backgrounds, colors, proportions", etc, maybe you don't draw like Picasso but do you draw better then your old self?"

"And of course try and try again.Buuut don't take advice from me because I give advice and don't follow them myself, I'm one of those people!"

Goals and ambitions for the near or distant future?

"Ehm I definitely still want to find my own style to create my own drawings and everything and I mean the sooner the better?."

"Also I would really like to get better at portrait or more like humans in general, proportions, portraits, hands, etc. Also plants, flowers, animals and 3D."

"I know, a lot ?I keep trying and I don't make the progress I would like to see, so even tho my gallery is full with stuff like this I can't get over my own shadow to upload them. I will try but who knows when this happens?!"

Do you ever get burnt out? What do you do to combat it if you do?

"Actually to be honest I'm kinda dealing with that at this moment, I still manage to make
small drawings but when I start a big one I lose the will to draw pretty fast, I hate that?."

"And if I remember correctly I had a big drawing burnout last year, I stopped
drawing from I think it was May til October and I only started again because I really
liked the weekly challenge, my "199: leap of faith" is the result and boy I am glad I did
that one because shortly after I drew my "Daki and Gyutaro" drawing."Why I lost interest?" I don't really have a clue, just like right now and "why did I came back?" I just suddenly wanted to draw again!"

"So yeah no clue, but for now I still try to upload at least smaller drawings."
