@SaltineCracker brings their love of everything both sweet and salty here to the Colors Gallery! They have a passion for many cute franchises such as Pokemon, Kirby, and Animal Crossing which is reflected in their adorable artwork! Let's figure out if they are more salty or sweet!
Introduce yourself! What is the origin story of SaltineCracker?
"The saltine cracker was created by a guy named Frank L. Sommer, and they were created to appease the roaring stomachs of sailors with their savory, crispy crunchies."
"Haha no but actually hi, my name's Justine and I'm obsessed with cute little creatures . I really like alot of gaming franchises such as Pokemon, Kirby, Sonic, and Animal Crossing. I like watching true crime and documentaries as well as some anime here and there."
"I grew up with art in the family as my sisters were constantly drawing and my grandpa was a painter. Drawing has been a special hobby of mine for as long as I can remember, and I'd really love to pursue it as a career in the future!"
The way you draw, especially the way you color your paintings makes everything seem extra soft(and huggable too!). What inspired your style? What was your biggest influence? What is your typical process?
"There are so many things, where do I start? I used to be super into Pokemon TCG, well not so much playing but rather collecting, and there was always this one illustrator who always caught my eye, the illustrators name was Sui and I absolutely loved their work! I'd say that they definitely instilled some of the love I have for cuddly creatures!"
"I always used Miiverse back when it was around and there were so many great artists on there as well! I felt inspired by so many and it's one of the platforms that really helped me get into digital art."
"I try to imagine the drawing before I start, it really helps with what pose or what kind of aesthetic you're going for. For my base colors I always try to pick bright colors, but not too light. I prettymuch toggle it around until the color looks right to me. Warmer colors such as pink and red are almost always my go-tos for shading, blues and purples work too sometimes!"

Your pokemon paintings are gorgeous and really adorable! What's your favorite pokemon? Do you choose grass, fire , or water? And if you were a pokemon trainer and could choose any pokemon regardless of type as your starter which one would it be?
"My favorite pokemon would for sure have to be Emolga! I always loved the cutesy but devious nature of Iris' Emolga. I really adored it in the mystery dungeon games as well because it waddles like a lil penguin, it's so precious!"
"Water all the way! My favorite starters are Squirtle and Oshawott and in general it just seems the most useful of the three."
Oshawott by SaltineCracker
"You need to explore across the ocean and can't afford the absurd prices of a speed boat? Choose water. You spot a house fire and need a close and convenient way to put it out? BOOM! Water. You are trying to learn ninjutsu and every wiki guide leads you back to some kid running in a less than optimal way? Greninja of course… which is water!"
"I think the most obvious pokemon would be Emolga since it's my favorite, but no Celebi for sure. I just think it would be funny to time travel to places you don't belong. I'd snag the tiniest dino I can find and bring it to the future. I'd name him Rodney, take him on walks, and feed him dino shaped nuggets, and if I ever regret my decision I can just time travel back and change my choice."

What's your dream pokemon team?
"An absolute dream team would probably have to be Emolga, my favorite so it's obvious, moving on."
"Absol with its ability to foresee natural disasters it would be able to alert me where not to go for very important business meetings, and tactical spy missions."
"Victini is another obvious one, it grants victory so never will I ever lose a game of smash bros ever again. I will succeed in everything the little apple pixie touches, I will become a chess pro and become the undefeatable champion of Galar!"
"Tropius because I really like bananas, and he's also really cute. I think he'd look great in a tux and tophat and overall he looks low maintenance, like all he eats is grass."
"Sableye just looks like a fun little guy and an overall joy to be around, such an absolute gem! Last but not least, Espurr! I just really love cats and of all the cat pokemon I find it to be the cutest!"

How did you discover Colors Live? How do you feel about our community and if you could have any feature in the app or the gallery what would it be?
"I found out about it thanks to the Switch version releasing. The thing about me is I really like to have a drawing tool on pretty much any device I have, pair that up with the sonarpen and it was really tempting!"
"I love how small and cozy the community is, like it feels like everyone here knows each other. The community is so nice and supportive of each other, I see artists on here improve so quickly and I can tell why."
"So many helpful people and tutorials galore here, it really is incredible! Oooh there are so many features I want, some new brushes would be great! I would love more ways to customize my profile like having symbols in our little avatar thingies or more badges to earn and collect, sounds very fun."
"And most importantly, the ability to @ everyone who comments on a post of yours. I mean responding to comments can feel a bit daunting sometimes, I always feel like I'm gonna miss someone's comment, it would be so nice and convenient."
Is Colors Live your main way of making art? If not, how does Colors compliment your workflow? What other software and mediums do you use?
"Colors is definitely the most prevalent. I've really gotten used to it so it's heavily preferred to most others I've tried. I also use IbisPaint a lot which is pretty alright."
How do you feel about Ash no longer being the main character of the Pokemon anime in 2023? I personally feel conflicted myself...
"I'm a bit indifferent to it, I mean I grew up watching the anime so I definitely feel something, but the past few series felt very copypaste and samey, and Ash has felt devoid of personality since the sixth gen anime imo. If I ever miss the guy, there are eight generations and 1,000+ hours worth of his adventure so I think I'm fine."
"I think it's great that they're changing things up and refreshing the franchise with a new face. They're no longer limited to Ash and Pikachu, there are so many different types of stories that can be told now! Hopefully they'll continue changing the protagonist as the years go on, I think it could really turn into something innovative and incredible!"
Favorite Colors and non-Colors artist? How do they inspire you?
"My favorite colors artist would have to be @BHPineapple, I love her work and I love how pretty her artstyle is! Her art looks like it was done by a professional manga artist!" ◇◆Shiny Glaceon◆◇ by BHPineapple
"Non-colors? There are several artists on Youtube I really like like cuptoast, Shgurr, and RubberRoss to name a few, they're all pretty great!"

What's the deal with saltine crackers? I take it you really like them and other snacks?
"They're good but alas, I have a greater love for doughnuts among several other foods like pumpkins, strawberries, and I even like graham crackers more tbh."
"The saltine cracker name choice was more so picked because I like salt and my name ends in tine so it only made sense to add cracker to it as well."

Do you have any art goals or goals in general for the second half of this year and beyond?
"Well, I've definitely been trying to improve my backgrounds. I'd especially like to become better with brick patterns, and drawing different perspectives, I really feel like I could use some practice for both. I would really like to become more flexible with others artstyles so I might try that out too."
Do you ever get art block? What is your solution to combat it ?
"Funnily enough I usually try to draw things I'm comfortable and familiar with, so pokemon! It also really helps to look up certain things you're passionate about or even looking back at some pieces of art and narrowing down what you liked about it can help as you'll know what add to the drawing you're working on now."
Advice for young artist and artist of all skill levels?
"Reference pictures are your friend! I highly recommend using them. Keep drawing the things you love, because that's usually when the ideas will really come to you. Most importantly, have fun! You shouldn't stress about the little details, just keep trying your best!"
