Colors Gallery, meet RainFroggi

@RainFroggi hops to us with crisp, stellar painting skills and a strong passion for design! They've spent many years honing their craft and it's paid off because now they are getting recognition as the current weekly artist! Let's get to know them!

Let's hop to it! Tell us about yourself! We're thirsty for knowledge! What should we know about you? Where did your get your start? What's your origin story?

"It all started when I was watching anime for the first time. I had always loved to draw in my childhood, but nothing got me into drawing characters like anime did. Pretty cheesy but it's true! I practiced for years and years, wanting to get better and wanting to learn more and develop my art style until I finally decided I wanted to be a character designer and illustrator one day. I went to college and studied game design and honed my craft and then once I graduated, I was so burnt out and my love for drawing kind of went away for a year. And then I bought colors live, hoping that it would motivate me to draw more and it took some getting used to but here we are now!"

You have such a clean and charming art style! How did you develop it? What inspired you? I assume you like a lot of video games, anime etc.?

"My art style started out being inspired by anime and some notable manga artists I loved back in the day. Gradually, when I went to college, I began to develop new artstyles and tried a lot of new things to try to adapt my art style for different things. I've tried semi realistic artstyles for awhile before coming full circle back to my roots. I love drawing big, glossy anime eyes and using thick, cartoony lines. Really, I'm just having fun with it and trying new things every day!"

Your first post was in December last year! Welcome to Colors! How did you discover our community and what led you to joining? What made Colors stand out to you?

"I used to have Colors 3D and I never posted with it but I loved the concept and thought that it was a great art program for beginning artists as well as experienced artists. Back when Colors Live was announced, I knew I just had to buy it. I wasn't expecting such a large community of amazing and inspiring artists and when I first started posting, I was met with a lot of kind comments from artists on Colors that I started to look up to."

Are there any other software or mediums you use? How does Colors Live fit into your workflow? Is there any future features you want to see?

"I really just like to doodle, so a lot of my mediums lately are ballpoint pens and watercolor. I also use clip studio paint and started my digital art journey using Krita and Medibang Paint. I also do graphic design sometimes and like to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for that! Lately I have been just wanting something easy to use for drawing since I dont have any fancy tablets that I can use wherever I go so using Colors Live on my switch has been an easy fix for that! I've used a lot of different software and some things that have made digital art so fun that I miss in Colors is more filter modes like multiply, overlay, etc. I also would love to see a free transform and symmetry tool and possibly some new textured brushes in Colors Live."

Colors artworks that you're most proud of so far?

I would probably say my most recent post of my fanart of Patisserie Peach. I think my color work on that piece look really nice and I love the way I shaded the character's hair.

Favorite artist on and off Colors plus why?

"I have two favorites on Colors right now, those being @Meganekko_ and @PineappleChan. I think both are absolutely amazing artists in their own way. I love Megannekko's carefree, sketchy artstyle. Their color usage and art style are really clean and really cute. PineappleChan has such a beautiful and adorable artstyle. I absolutely adore their line technique and they way they draw those big anime eyes. My favorite artist off Colors right now would be knic.toons on Instagram. I've taken a lot of inspiration from her artstyle and love how simple yet cute and well designed her drawings are.

How is 2024 going for you so far?

"It's definitely been a stressful year so far!"

Goals and ambitions for the future?

"I stil want to be a character designer and illustrator one day and am working really hard on building my portfolio again to achieve that goal."

What makes someone a good or exceptional artist in your opinion?

"I think art is subjective and I don't think there is anyone that is necessarily a "bad" artist. When I stopped drawing in the anime artstyle, it was because I thought that it wasn't going to make me successful as an artist. I've had teachers and peers tell me that my artstyle needed to change and I needed to adapt a more corporate way of making art to succeed in the industry. But that is just not true! Artists like Akira Toriyama and Tetsuya Nomura didn't get their success from making art that met corporate standards. What I am trying to say is that all art is exceptional, especially when the artist is still learning and exploring their medium. It's a really beautiful thing to see."

What is the best contingency plan against burnout or art block?

"This is a great question that I would also like the answer to, haha! But to seriously answer the question, the thing that has helped me the most is to just doodle whatever. I like to just start drawing shapes or I'll even just draw stick figures and build off of that. It's not always full proof but it's helpful to get back into the flow of drawing again."

Anime vs manga?

"Why not both? But if I had to choose one, probably anime."

Anyone you want to shout-out?

"Shout-out to my amazing husband for hyping me up when I told him I was Artist of the Week on Colors."
