Christmas is a little less than a week away which means plenty of time to learn about @Motherfather !
They may not be your actual Mother or Father but what you can learn from them is definitely something your parents would approve of! They're artist of many habits, some of their favorites being animation, writing, cosplay, mask making, and of course illustration!
This interview is an early gift to you all, unwrap it and see what's inside!
@Motherfather, outside of being the spawn of your mother and father, what's your origin story? How would you like to introduce yourself to the Colors Gallery?
hihi! I'm Cal or Kurt ( Or Motherfather like many know me by ) I'm a 14 year old artist who has used the platform for a little over a year? and I'm very excited to be AOTW ^_^

There are so many cool things about your style that it's a little hard to describe! Knowing your inspirations should make it easier, though. What would you say are your biggest inspirations? What franchises are you into? How did you get your start in art in the first place?
My biggest inspiration for making art would be the artist Louis Wain for his ability to produce art of cats even despite his own mental illness. I started drawing at 2-3 years old because of my brother, he's also a very big inspiration to me and he's very much part of my ongoing art journey. A franchise that has actually made a very big impact on my art as a total is Splatoon, the bright colors and features of the characters were a big inspiration to me lol.

How did you discover Colors? What keeps you around, and what's your favorite thing about the community?
I discovered colors live in 2021 - 2022 (?) and I used to lurk around on the demo and draw in the offline gallery. My favorite thing in the community is the amount of talent everyone has. I stick around to see the growth and talent of other artists as they continue to improve with every drawing.
How would you describe your artistic process? A style like yours is hard to come by—how did you develop it?
I developed my artstyle over time honestly, I never had a consistent art style until right now ( which is not surprising for young artists ) My biggest tip for artists is study basic art styles and learn the fundamentals. Inspiration from others is helpful but I suggest taking inspiration from ASPECTS ( that being eyes, shading, rendering style, etc etc).

Colors Live development is beginning to pick up pace. What do you hope to see as new features? What's something you wish had been available while working on one of your artworks?
I would honestly love animation but I know its been said a THOUSAND times lol. I would love new brushes since I like to experiment with all the brushes.
On the topic of your art specifically, which pieces are you most fond of and why? What unique challenges did they present? Care to describe your mindset while making them?
I have been extremely fond of ;
Because of the shading, coloring, and just overall vibe. This artwork in particular is meant to represent trauma and the process of healing from it.
I also like Beach .
Because of the lighting and background. This piece was meant to represent involuntary isolation and the wish to be able to be free ( the note on the bag says 'get home' meaning to be able to get back into humanity / home )
What artists do you look up to and admire the most? Who are your favorite artists both on and off Colors Live?
What are your top 3 favorite Colors artworks? What makes those pieces special and stand out to you?
Kou and Mitsuba by MrChimera
I like the colors, the background, and just the overall vibe of it!

I like the colors, the vibe, and the feeling of DREAD it gives!
Do you use any other software or mediums? How does Colors Live fit into your process?
I use magma, whiteboard fox, ibis paint x, and procreate! ( just not as much )
Outside of making art, what other interesting hobbies do you have?
A few other hobbies I have is cosplay, making masks and stuff for cosplay, animation, writing, and designing characters!
KING OF PAIN by Motherfather
What advice would you give to the average artist or newcomer to the art world? What are the do’s and don’ts? How should someone optimize their artistic growth?
My advice is take your time and find out who you are through YOUR art. Take inspiration from game artstyles and manga, study aspects, and if you can, TAKE AN ART CLASS IT WILL HELP YOU IN THE LONG RUN!!

Your username—how did you come up with it? Was it inspired by your parents?
I came up with my username on just a random whim honestly, it was not inspired by my parents in any way but it was a silly name I came up with on my own lol.
Imagine yourself in the future, 1–5+ years from now. Where do you see yourself? What do you hope to have accomplished?
In 1-5+ years I really hope to accomplish healing from my own personal stuff, I hope to get better at art in any other way I can, and maybe even learn a few new hobbies!
Tis' the season to be jolly! What have you got planned for the holidays? Any cool gifts you want, or gifts you’re excited to give to family and friends? What makes a great gift to you?
MERRY CHRISTMAS YAY! I plan to make a few gifts from scratch this year! I don't really want any gifts this year being real but I am very excited to make some gifts for my friends. What makes a gift great to me is the thought behind it. You could gift me a tomato and I'd cherish it to the fullest because I know its a gift for ME! :3
I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU by Motherfather
When burnout strikes, what do you do? How do you get your artistic mojo back?
When burnout strikes, you doodle as much as you can. That's what I do. :3
