Medusa was turned into a Gorgon (a serpentine monster with snakes for hair, metal claws, a petrifying stare, and TUSKS) by the wife of a God, who had said Medusa "seduced" him into cheating on her, when in fact he'd r'aped Medusa after she rejected his advances. She spends years in a cave, living like an animal with only her similarly cursed sisters for company. Because her curse turns the men she looks upon into stone, the braggart son of a king hunts her down and CHOPS OFF HER HEAD.
Medusa is usually portrayed as a monster and villian, and is often se'xualized for no apparent reason. But she was a victim, and died because of what the gods did to her.
