Three, actually. In Japanese folklore foxes "level up" by gaining more magical abilities over time, which also increases the number of tails they have. I think it all stops at nine when they're about ancient. : )

I thought Kitsunes were more yellow. (Because the only kitsune I've seen is Luigi in SM3DL xD)
