You need their FriendCode. If you ask they'll give it to you, along with their name. You need to get your FriendCode from your friends list (the little smiley face icon in the homepage if your ds.) And tell them that code along with your name. Then in your friends list click add a friend and type in the other person's friend code and name, make sure they have yours, and then you've added them :) I hope that makes sense..
