The show's target demographic may have been young girls, but the creators wanted to make the show tolerable for anyone else who has to watch it with their children or young relatives.
You don't have to like it, but you can at least respect the people who took their time to create a deep, fascinating story and universe, with great animation, acting and scripting.
Relating FiM to Dora is like relating The Avengers to Super Why. It just doesn't work.
