Icarus is a term in Greek mythology for... meh just type icarus in on Dictionary.com :p But Icarus isn't an actual character. Awesome drawing, I love Pit!

Icarus was the son of an inventor named Daedalus. Daedalus and Icarus were in prison, but Daedalus took the feathers from his pillow and wax from the candles and made wings for himself and his son to escape the prison. Daedalus told Icarus not to fly too high or else the sun could melt the wax which held the wings together. He disobeyed because he enjoyed soaring in the sky, and his wings melted and he fell. Because Pit cannot fly on his own I would say he represents Icarus and the title "Kid Icarus" implies he is a young model of being Icarus.
