I'm not going to lie, because of my religious convictions I dislike your subject matter. I only thought I should mention that because, if you're really, honestly asking what people think about your ability, and how this piece has progressed, I'm sure you understand that many people will laud this piece simply because of the subject you chose and not necessarily because of how it looks. That being said, you are an excellent, and unique artist. I can honestly say I've never seen anyone, anywhere on the web that draws and paints like you. And what you draw looks very professional. Your shading is the smothest and best I've seen anywhere. And specific to Colors! 3D, your use of the 3D layers always makes sense, flows realisticly from layer to layer, and is comfortable to look at. EXCELLENT work!

I think it's great that you're looking for improvement all the time and your go at more realism is great! but just remember to try and not get too caught up in the details ALL the time. Details can make or break an artist as in focusing so much on them can result in either frustration and artblock, or improvement and joy.

For one, I have to say how much I love the messages your gallery sends out. Colors Live is a very immature and discriminating place, so it's refreshing to see gay friendly people out there. Hopefully in time it'll come to pass.
Anyways, I do have some critiques.
The shading is kind of vague in where the source of the light is; it kinda looks like the light source is between the "camera" and the subjects, which I call 'pillow shading.' What this does is make the subjects appear more 3d, but 3d in the way that a puffy sticker is. Sure it's 3d, but the subject itself is not, rather the material it is on appears 3d.
I'm not the go-to guy on this either, but the profile's facial structure is a little oddly shaped. In another comment I'll post some resources to help you with it.
Then there is some simple anatomy issue, such as the length of the arm wrapping around the shoulders and the angle and location from which the other arm comes up in the screen. I do laud you for doing this on a DS, of course! Again, thanks for the support :)

I'm not the one who keeps bringing up gays on here, but I do know many people don't believe in love. My comment was rephrasing your own. As for forcing beliefs on someone, that only applies to hatred and anger. For example, teaching someone to share and be nice would not be considered "shoving your beliefs down their throats" no matter how many people believe kindness is wrong. However, if someone believes that kindness and love should not be shown or encouraged, that belief would cross the line into forcing a belief on someone else. There is only one reality, that love helps and hatred hurts. Belief is something outside known reality, like an idea that a pink elephant visits someone every night in their room. If it turns out to be real, it stops being a belief. And love is real and measurably good. Not encouraging it can be nearly as harmful as discouraging it.

I remember being so impressed with how much I'd improved when I made this. Wow, to think how far I've come since this really shows how much time and effort can really do. I hope this can encourage others to never give up on your art.
