It had been a month of traveling South for Jules, but he was behind schedule, and had just managed to get to Tennesee. He stopped at a cute farmhouse with a small, wilting flower patch, where he planned to stay the night in the house eaves. He reminisced over summer as he gazed at the glorious sunset. When he was just about to go to sleep, another hummingbird zipped by and sat nearby. "Oh, um...hi!" she said, as Jules became wide awake. "Hello," he answered. "I'm Jules." "Emma," she replied.

"Whatcha doin'?" she asked earnestly. "Just relaxing before I go to sleep," Jules answered. "I've been working on my migration route all day." "Oh," Emma said. "Where are you going?" "The Yucatan," he said. "I was going to Florida," she explained, "but the Yucatan sounds fun, too. Maybe I'll visit Florida, then go to Mexico." "But doesn't that mean you'll fly across the ocean?" "I have all winter," she replied. "Well, I'm going to get there fast, then take it slow." "But what's the point of that?" Emma asked. "It's about the journey, after all." "That's a cliche," Jules said. "So? The people who came up with cliches were probably smart." Jules realized he was losing this theoretical arguement.

Jules sighed. "This is nice, just relaxing here," he said. "Yup. My friends are all being silly, hanging out with Flip." "Who's Flip?" "Phil's nickname his girlfriends give him," Emma answered. "He has, like, fifteen. I'm not kidding. It's gotten annoying." "I can see how. I've always been a loner, in some sense." A pause lightly fell over the two. "Well, I'm going to sleep. Goodnight, Emma." "'Night, Juliet," Emma snickered. Jules now knew that he had to go to Florida.
