Reduced to but a mortal - Trance [OC] by Coven-of-Crows

She is part of my current story, about to be a year since I began working on it.
I would love if you asked about lore in the comments, I just don't want to type it out all for this post to flop

@lemonyade @N00dle_dragon
This will defenity take multiple comments to complete :')
Also -- the idea is alwsys better in my head :sob:

I have a pretty long plotline for this, and she only showw up at the end. I would say she fits the character archetype of 'haunts the narrative', as she is mentioned all throughout the story, but rarley appears herself :)

Ok, NOW to the actual lore :0

Three gods had reigned over Anhen, (where the plot takes place), and have for thosands of years.

(continued)

Mortality, God of Life and Death,
Corruption, God of the Corrupted,
and Trance, the Godess of Dreams.

She was able to 'dreamwalk', or vist the dreams of mortals, and could converse with them in said dreams, as deitys would rather not draw attention to themselves by visiting the mortal plane. She could control and bend dreams, Occasionally see the thoughts of mortals, (while asleep), and various defense tactics.
Mortality himself eyed her domain -- to walk in the mortal mind would -

- benifit him greaty. When he asked if she would be so kind to send him to an angelic mind, she refused. They should stick to the domains they had established, and not to mention the power Mortality harboured already. Controlling when all of creation can fall to the hand of death was powerful enough, but he also could conjour a parasitic infection as a representation of himself in the living plane, controlling the host. (<-- Does happen to one of the main characters at one point)

Why would he need the relam of dreams to bend creation to his views if infection had already existed?
Clearly, Mortality was upset by this. Though, his petty comments and targeted insults didn't budge Trance. She *had* been the most level-headed of the three, understanding that true wisdom did not come from ignorant phrases that made up her brother's vocabulary. (Wisdom is partly why she takes the form of an owl-like creature)

Quite strangely, she felt as if her flow of power was weakening. Trance feeds off of dreams, and starves without them, so she felt herself declining day by day. How could she even lose dreams? There were thousands of them out there, and everytime she tried to dreamwalk, it would get cut off, as if they woke up mid-conversation. She could usually pull them back to sleep... what happened to her?

She became paranoid, competley losing all sense of her former collected self, as she was removed from

Coven-of-Crows

03 Feb, 2026, 9:18 pm

- the one thing that kept her sane.

Not to long after -- The Godess dissapeared without a trace...

One day, it felt almost as if dreams just... stopped. Not only the ones that served as a distraction from reality under the cover of the stars, but dreams as in desires. Yes, these motivations still existed, but they were near impossible to obtain. Only if you witnessed the domain of another god was it possible, such as being plunged into corruption or witnessing death and infection

It had been 50 years.
50 years sence the destruction that came with the plauge Mortality had sent. (Useful info later)
50 years sence Trance was 'last seen'.

The youth believed that dreams were only myths; Fantasies made up by the older generation to serve as an entertaining tale. Some even stopped recognizing Trance as a god.

Corruption had been searching to no avail. Their sister was gone and Mortality didn't seem to pay mind to this,
Subsequently, Suspicious landed of the god,

- as no deity coul be brought low by a mortal land. Only by another of similar power.

Yes, Corruption's suspicions were correct.
And Trance?
Oh, she was alive, but plunged into insanity.
50 years would normally be such a minescule time frame for a god, nothing comapred to the eons they've existed and will continue to exist. But a starving one, cut off from all contact and removed from the minds of the living?
It feels like centuries.

She had been trapped -- in a place unknown to her. Occasionally, Mortality would visit -- have her use her domain to is will in exhange of a dream or two to feed off of. Other than that?
Complete scilence, and the guilt of being a pawn.
She tore herself apart trying leave, even hurting herself in order to find an exit. This drove her deeper into her madend fantasies, a deranged form of her mind.
Her whole purpose was beaten and stolen out of her,

Coven-of-Crows

-- Until she saw herself as, and practically was, no more than a mortal.
Everything was fleeting, even her own body as it became more unrecognizable every day...
exept for one thing.

She knew she was somewhere near Anhen's mountain ranges, as someone lived there. Corvid, was his name. Corruption's son, made to carry out the tasks and negotiations that the god couldn't in the mortal world, and quickly forgotten about with the dissaperance of Trance.

She lived his life through his dreams.

Through the love and passion he felt , even eventually the grief. He became as isolated as she was, fogotten about by the gods and ripped from the one he loved.
He didn't know he was keeping a god alive, and similarly to the godess of dreams, belived he served no purpose.

Corvid's grief Mortality's plans, as he was also trying to bring down Corruption. Not only by attempting to **** the Corrupted, but by doing the same to the one other hold that Corruption had on the mortal world, Corvid

[The corrupted is an important concept to the story, involved in the overarching theme. I can't explain it rn, im running out of time :( ]

The problem was that gods couldn't k*ll or even tamper with the domains of their siblings, so he would be forced to find another way.
So, he went to Corvid and convinced him to k*ll himself.
He had no one to love, and no one to love him? What was the point anyway?

Coven-of-Crows

03 Feb, 2026, 10:15 pm

(Im not gonna go into detail about Corvid's attempt, but dw, it fails! He ends up finding another character in this plot who he accidentally saves the life of, and feels an obligation to care for her. <3 [plationic, she is a child])

I'm getting off topic... aren't I.
Corvid is a poet, wise and insightful. But, also very stubborn.
He never realized he had dreams, as he was cut off from the world and didn't know that others didn't. It was normal for him -

- But when Asteri, (kid he practically adopted by this point), mentions it... he realized she was right.
Reluctantly, he went to talk to his father for the first time in decades, telling about the dreams he had. While yes, Corruption was annoyed that it hadn't been metioned earlier, those thoughts were clouded by the possibility that Trance could be alive.
Eventually, after a bit of searching, he stumbled upon an area beneath thr mountains,

Coven-of-Crows

03 Feb, 2026, 10:26 pm

- coming face to face with Trance for the first time in years.

She wasn't the same at all. Went completely silent, and when she did speak, it was nonsensical. This time had made her mentally ill, driven to the brink of insanity, starved from her dreams, and unknowing what she even was.
Corruption was furious, learning that she had been beaten and derived of life.
So, he did something no one mortal or divine thought possible...
He ****** Mortality.
