from my experience, i think the key to growth is discomfort. in the same way one grows by putting themself in an uncomfortable situation, or confronting uncomfortable thoughts, i think an artist grows through the same exact thing. that's why we're often told to break out of our comfort zone, or told to challenge ourselves.
of course, do this at your own pace, but i think growth requires asking yourself questions and rethinking your approach to life. your perspective. you're always going to be struggling, but through that struggle, you will evolve. the moment you stop, is the moment you've grown complacent and stale. remember to have fun in between it all though. don't be too hard on yourself. art is you, and you are art. let your expression be passionate, and let it be love. let it all come naturally to you with patience and time, and you'll see. hope this helps you.
