In answer to your question:
For classical music, my favourite is Leonard Bernstein (my namesake and possible distant relative!!!), closely followed by Maurice Ravel, Aaron Copland and Gustav Mahler.
If excluding classical, my favourite "contemporary" artist is Guy Garvey / his band Elbow, whose music I grew up on :)
