If I may toss in my own two cents:
If you want your art work to recieve likes, you need to paint what other users here like.

It's great to paint what you like, but it may not really be popular, or you might not recieve much traction because it doesn't really pop out in the feed list when people browse the gallery. If you want people to notice something, it needs to stand out.

Another great way to get noticed is to share your own comments and compliments on other user's art as well.

Regarding that last point I made, there's a powerful feedback loop that occurs when people recieve more comments than usual. They become more motivated to spend more time here, which increases the likelyhood that more users will be noticed, which in turn increases the positive comments.

Inversely, when people don't recieve comments, they tend to think this place is dead, and just quietly leave.
