Bro, honestly no idea how people make ood designs, I've been trying to make some more eeveelution designs and edit some of the already existing eeveelution ocs I have for their reference sheets BUT- Almost all the designs don't look exactly appealing enough and don't exactly turn out the way I imagined
If ANYONE has tips on making character designs PLEASE HELP-
The Colors! Gallery moderators will look at it as soon as possible.

To preface these are my ocs: #InksOC
I like choosing a cohesive/similar color scheme and then choosing a few colors you want to stand out.
Saccharin for example: Their colors are based around the butterfly in it's eye, and the body harness. These details do not change regardless of outfit. They are hot pink. The body suit? Just a really dark version of that color.
Orion's splash of color is his bows and hat. His species is primarily 1 color, so I added jarring color contrast to spice it up

When it comes to patterns and small details:
I think that depending on the theme/style of your OC, you can have as many or as little accessorys as you want.
Ashley has patterns on her sleeves due to a lack of visual intrest on her overall. It adds some contrast while still making her shadow be recognizable as display her vs Void.
Saccharin on the other hand was INTENDED to have a 'too much' personality. So I added a lot of smaller accessorys that dont contrast eachother much but still work.

Overall:
Depending on the personality/theme of your character(s) you can work with them however you want, and even having a really high contrast/high accessory oc can work in certain contexts.
For characters with a high contrast between main and detail colors: Use less accessorys, maybe just a few statement pieces.
For characters with less accessorys: Use come good, high contrast colors to keep your character from being simple while preventing it from being overboard.

something that helps me get the creative juices is i either use a random color palette and try to make a design based on that, or, i randomly choose a aesthetic and try making an character thats based around it. usually in the process of doing this i get my own ideas of what colors and details and whatever to add
