haha, yeah I discovered I could move layers shortly after! Should have changed the descroptipn!

you commented on my painting telling me you couldn't do smooth 3D so I'll tell you how, copy the picture onto the next layer, then go over the bits further away with an eraser on low opacity. The parts furthest away use high opacity eraser for.

Aah ok, I see! So you don't rub them out completely, you use the opacity slider to leave a feathered edge! That may be where I've been going wrong.
