I've heard lots of these used as the same and I hate it.

Alone means no one around, but you can still have fun.
Like when I get home from school and Mason is in a club, no one's around or home, but I still like it.

Lonely means you can have everyone/thing, but you still feel empty.
Like when you're in a crowd, but you feel like no one's there. Like a hole in your heart and soul.
It was an advantage at the dawn of humanity. If you were bad, no one wanted you.

That meant death.
