#Lumenel
#EXKY7
Emergency! There’s been a containment breach in the underlabs! Many of the experiments have escaped and have begun to multiply out of control! Amongst them was the EX-KY7, the Lumenel. This chimera is extremely dangerous due to its high intelligence, bioluminescence, psychic, stealth, and voice mimicry capabilities. It may look ungainly and frail but for anyone not knowing what their up against it will be the last thing they will ever see, if they even see it at all. Let’s shed some light on the type of threat we’re dealing with!
*For anyone who may be confused, you can also make your own original. The templates I drew aren't mandatory for this challenge. They mainly serve as an example or inspiration  *
The Colors! Gallery moderators will look at it as soon as possible.

Abilities:
Bioluminescence- The Lumenel has bioluminescent growths, or nodes all over its body. The largest being in the humps on its back. These nodes are primarily used for long distance communication, warding off potential threats, and disorientating prey. The properties of Lumenel light is unique, capable of effecting prey even when it isn’t directly observing it if they’re too close.
Photolocation- Even just being near an object where the Lumenel is shining its light can give away your location. It can detect prey with both its own light and using objects reflecting its light.
Stealth- Using its abilities to manipulate light and its own skin texture, the Lumenel can cloak itself and become nearly invisible. The soles of its feet are highly specialized for absorbing sound, which when combined with its cloaking abilities, makes it nearly impossible to hear or see coming.
Hypnosis & Confusion- The light of the Lumenel has properties that can manipulate the perception of its prey, leading to disorientation, confusion, cause hallucinations or even blackouts. It’s important to avoid viewing its light for more than a few seconds and to absolutely never make eye contact with it as it has a hypnotic gaze capable of altering the behavior of prey. Even those not looking directly at the light emitted from a Lumenel have been known to feel nauseous, become disorientated, and often end up passing out when exposed for too love. Based on observations and research, just being too close to the light of a Lumenel is enough to cause these effects.
Elongation- The neck of the Lumenel is deceptive. It looks to be just a little longer than the length of its body but is capable of stretching and lunging at prey more than 2-3 times the perceived length, catching them off guard when they think they’re a safe distance away. It can coil and lunge faster than the blink of an eye.
Voice Mimicry- Lemenel have been observed mimicking not just the sounds of their environment but even the voices of human prey it has heard, often using these learned sounds to lure them out into ambushes. Due to its exceptional intelligence, researchers speculate that not only does the Lumenel learn to mimic these sounds but can even associate them with meaning and context. However, there has not been enough research to confirm this.
Venom- The Lumenel has a surprisingly potent bite. Despite having a humanlike face, its capable of unhinging its jaws like a snake allowing for a wider gape to bite large prey or to swallow them whole. But the real potency is in its quick-acting venom, capable of instantly paralyzing human sized prey. This venoms effect was observed when a few unfortunate researchers were caught and bitten by the stealthy creature. When bitten their bodies would instantly seize, despite not always having been bitten in an area that would cause instant death or massive amounts of blood loss.
Intelligence- The most dangerous tool in the arsenal of a Lumenel. Looking into its illuminated eyes, one realizes that this creature is operating on more than just instinct or a need to satisfy its hunger. This creature is perceptive. Its stalks, it listens, it learns your habits and patterns. It observes you from afar, decides the most effective way to get to you, manipulates your perception, preys on your fears, closes in, and then… its over in a flash. Contained specimen have been known to manipulate tools, pass complex test using their problem-solving capabilities, and even use a variety of bioluminescent signals and vocalizations to communicate with their handlers.
EMP- The light of the Lumenel is not only able to negatively effect organic creatures but can even disrupt and short-circuit electronics that are too close when hit with its light consistently or with a particularly powerful light pulse. This is likely how a good number of Lumenel escaped containment in the past.

Strength- Among chimera the Lumenel doesn’t possess strength outside of the ordinary besides its muscular, flexible neck which can punch through steel and reenforced structures when it lunges its head like a battering ram. It has strong legs too but they’re more suited for running than for kicks or fighting of any sort. It relies more on its powerful abilities of disorientation to get close and then finish prey off quickly with its venomous, paralyzing bite.
Defense- Not exceptional but not weak either. It’s head and neck are both thick and muscular, capable of shrugging off firearms and even low level explosives. Its legs are also quite tough. It will use them to protect itself from damage but in most situations the Lumenel will use its abilities to create an opening to escape if it feel threatened or outgunned rather than take unnecessary damage, often unleashing a powerful flash of light that can blind foes and disrupt technology as it makes an escape. Like most chimera, it can adapt fast and become resistant to previous forms of damage from bioweapons or its body becoming tougher in response to taking repeated damaged from human weapons.
Speed- It can gallop faster than a horse and sustain speeds of 45mph for extended periods of time. However, its real speed is in how fast it can lung at prey using its long, powerful neck. It is capable of lunging faster than the blink of an eye, faster than most of its prey is capable of reacting and attacking at unexpected angles thanks to its flexibility.
Weaponry- Don’t let Its herbivore-like body plan fool you, the Lumenel is equipped with potent tools. It has a strong venomous bite to compliment its other capabilities.
Stamina & Regeneration- The Lumenel is capable of using its abilities for a long period of time thanks to the humps on its back storing excess energy. It can also use these energy stores to speed up recovery when injured.
Behavior, habits and how it hunts:
Captivity-
Despite its abilities, there hasn’t been much light shined onto its behavior and habits outside of how it stalks, subdues, and kills prey. Captive specimen have shown some curiosity towards their handlers and even seem to seek out mental stimulation when left to their own devices, but its hard to determine whether the creatures are bored, seeking genuine connection with their caretakes, or if its just a ploy to get closer to potential victims due to their manipulative, highly predatory nature. The creatures are incredibly intelligent and capable of exploiting the psychological vulnerabilities of their victims, but it is unknown if they are capable of forming true emotional bonds or have any level of empathy.
Reproductive habits are not well understood since pairing individuals together in the past have proven unsuccessful as they prefer their own space and are highly territorial in most situations. They prefer to communicate with each other with complex light signals and limited vocalizations from a long distance. It’s speculated that they may reproduce asexually through budding or they may come together briefly to mate and then go separate ways.
Habitat-
The Lumenel is nomadic and prefers wide open areas that allow for it to spread light as far and wide as possible. It’s ability to disorientate prey with light and to cloak itself means that unlike other ambush predators, it doesn’t need to rely on cover to get close. As it wonders through its territory, it unleashes burst of light to both find potential prey and to communicate with other Lumenel from a distance. By nature, they are solitary and territorial but on occasion they have been seen together in sizable groups, flashing in unison or in response to one another. In these large gatherings they don’t seem to hunting, fighting, or pairing up so it is unknown what is the purpose of this behavior. Perhaps they are more social than we realize?

Killing method-
Their hunts often begin with them flashing light in consecutive burst until they sense their prey. Once the prey has been sensed they disorientate with flashes and begin to slowly close the distance, using their ability to cloak themselves to disappear and reappear in different locations to confuse and panic their prey. As they get closer to their victims they use a more concentrated beam of light to overwhelm them and try to make eye contact, if the prey has made eye contact they are put into a trance and are vulnerable to being finished off. Then the Lumenel suddenly lunges, paralyzing their prey with their venomous bite. If the prey is still moving the Lumenel will often take another bite or will use their powerful neck to slam or ragdoll their prey until it can no longer fight back before consumption.
If the prey manages to escape the initial predation attempt the Lumenel will case it down. If the prey hides, the Lumenel will try to bait it out with sounds, often voice mimicry, to lull it into a false sense of security.
Weaknesses and how to deal with the Lumenel:
When dealing with a Lumenel it goes without saying to never catch its gaze or be exposed to its light for too long. Getting caught out in the open is a guaranteed death sentence as it will use its light to disorientate you, and you aren’t capable of outrunning it. It can gallop over 45mph (even faster than a horse) and can lunge its neck faster than you can blink.
It’s best to hide in highly reenforced structures that block out light and are too small for it to easily get into with a lot of escape routes. Preferably a maze like building or structure with a lot of twist in turns in case it tries stretch its neck inside in search of potential prey.
If you’re hiding in a building make sure it has a strong roof because it is capable of stretching its neck over 3 stories and can use its jaws to anchor and pull itself on top of them. Outside of eyesight and its ability to use light to sense prey it doesn’t have the most keen senses. It has a relatively poor sense of smell and its hearing isn’t exceptional either so hiding in a dimly light area that blocks sounds is ideal.
Even if well hidden, keep your guard up and don’t stay in one place for too long. The Lumenel is persistent and incredibly intelligent, it will probe for weaknesses in a structure if it suspects there is prey and will fake sounds and even voices to bait you out of hiding.
As an ambush predator, especially a highly intelligent one, the Lumenel is incredibly cautious by nature. Outside of remaining hidden, the best way to deal with it overall is to deter an attack before it even starts. If you can damage it or make yourself more trouble than you’re worth from afar without exposing yourself to its light than you have may have a solid chance of survival against it. However, it is intelligent enough to call your bluff and exploit weaknesses so only make yourself known if you don’t have any other options.
Cooperation is the best way to deal with a Lumenel. Multiple people make it harder for it to decide on a single victim and a coordinated effort can more effectively deter it. It’s hypnotic gaze is powerful, but it has to concentrate extensively to use it which means its more vulnerable to being flanked while its distracted. Stay near enough to your allies to help but not so close together that the Lumenel can use its gaze on multiple people at the same time. If pursued as a group, split into different rooms or areas to get it to divide its focus but always keep up communication. Whatever you do, don’t let it pick you off one by one!
Destroying or damaging the humps on its back and other nodes on its body can temporarily disrupt or reduce its ability to use its light based abilities. Only attempt this if you have high powered weaponry and the cooperation of a team as support.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! For anyone that's confused you can also create your own without remixing. The drawings I did are mainly a template.

It's just like you to come up with the most needlessly grotesque details with your creations. Never change please. It's the mark of a brilliant mind to be able to create worlds like this with how much lore written down about it.

Seeing the light of lumenel is almost always a death sentence, so true.

Haha glad you think so! Also thats the first time I've hear that phrase! Thinking about it it does look like a mutate mlp character in a way...

Thank you! Always a pleasure to see your comments. They're much appreciated. And this is based off a brief short story assignment I did for college a few years ago but the story and lore has been on my mind ever since. The basic plot is a scientest and his wife end up disappering into an underground lab in hopes of developing a cure for their sons mysterious illness but things got out of hand during their experiments and as a consequence the lose control of the chimera they created. One day I'd like to get back to writing more of it(and rewritting too since it needs fleshing out).
@LooneyWizard "It's a camel that hit every branch on the ugly tree on the way down"
Haha you could say that! It has a body plan like that of camel but with it being a chimera it also has the attributes of other organisms too like bioluminescent deep sea creatures, skin texture manipulation like cephlapods along with a unique type of intelligence etc. All the chimera have DNA from many types of organism and artificials genes too!
