basically youve committed crime/crimes and you were to be put on dèath row until urbanshade swooped in and saved yo from the electric chair.. now you have to be a human experiment (expendable being one of several ranks at urbanshade, the lowest of the low, tasked w/ the most dangerous experiments/missions).
the expendable-protocol is basically a mission to grab a crystal which powers the blacksite 72,000 something studs below the norwegian sea-

you have to do this because of a certain fish-man mutant- sebastian. once you grab the crystal, you get a unknown (but large) amount of cash and your criminal record expunged.
(now for sebba lore)
he was a lr-p (low rank prisoner, one level better than exr-p/expendable) and was charged with nine counts of mürder. except he was innocent, and urbanshade knew. they didnt tell him though bc he was already legally classified as dèad. after he mutated, sebba-

caused the blacksite lockdown, stealing a high-clearance keycard and unleashing as many entities as he could (the ones you would see in-game). sebba makes a deal w/ two people: mr lopee and painter. with painter he promised to get them both out of there in return for preventing crystal retrieval. as for lopee, its currently unknown what sebba made a deal w/ him for, but its something lopee wants.
the player, you, collects research/currency as you progress through the site. sebba wants this to-

gain a leverage and a means of escape w/ a rival company. but this also depends on you NOT DÝING (you, painter and sebba are stuck in a time loop until you escape with the crystal, mr lopee fault, and is probably what he wants- they crystal). if you DONT dïe, then everyone escapes w/ a happy ending. if you- ahem- 'rescue' painter, then sebba goes jackshït and rips yor heart out; lopee vaporizes him, you dïe, and are forced to try again.
