I've played both games. I love a good Metroid-vania now and then, and The Hollow Knight series is no exception, aside from how incredibly well designed these games are. If you're into Metroid-vanias, I would highly recommend you play The first Hollow Knight first, then SilkSong later. Whil3 both games can be played as a stand-alone tittle, SilkSong is tremendously more difficult the first one. Furthermore, Hollow Knight has all of its updates, and SilkSong is still waiting on those.
