If I wanted to be better, you’d think by now I would be.
But I am endlessly excusing what my poor decisions make me, though it’s not the path I’m choosing.
I’m allowing it to take me, and it feels like a crime to act like who I’m already, who I should I be.
Though I keep it confidential I’m essentially synthetic.
’Cause despite all my potential, it might never be kinetic.
When is it too late? Where’s the deadline? The red line, to cross?
The golden opportunity’s gone, but is there dross left behind I can find and use to rise off the floor? What is fate? But the end of the road that we’re on? Can I choose to be king? And not pawn?
Still as weak, still can’t move, but an improvement from before.
If I wanted to be better, you would think by now I would be, and even when I follow every guideline to the letter, I’m afraid it’s always hollow, and I’m never getting better.
And it feels a crime to act like I’m already who I should be, but if I’m less ashamed of my disguise than what’s inside it? Can my inner self be blamed for all the times it’s tried to hide it?"

For those who don’t know yet, Aiden and Ross are actually the same person, though they’re presented at different moments in time as if they were two completely different characters.
And in case anyone has noticed, as the years go by, Aiden’s expression gradually shifts more and more toward sadness
His story is actually pretty sad, because Ross dedicates practically his WHOLE LIFE to protecting someone who doesn’t even remember him :sob: He’s one of my most complex characters, and also one of the hardest to write, but one of my favorites too. I always wanted to have an older OC, and I find it really interesting to tell a story that spans across the years, from the perspective of someone who grows older as the ending draws near.
When he lost his daughter (Neo), Aiden suffered so much that he even began neglecting himself physically (to the point he no longer recognized his own reflection in the mirror — that’s why I draw him in 2023 with a scruffy beard and long, messy hair).

Awahh my pretty boy <3 it's so cool to see his growth over the years!
He kinda reminds me of Jackson Lamb from Slow Horses (not by personality so much as appearence and vibes), which by the way you would probably LOVE! It's a VERY well-written MI5 drama about a team of rejects!
The dynamic is kinda similar to your OCs, and it's both hilarious and amazingly cool and stressful to watch hehe
