The species Rovanok (Row-van-ock) is a Russian ice dragon who is a vital apex hunter. Rovanoks are exclusive, and have a distinct societal structure, with only a few lineages to be carried.
They live in the icy arctic tundras of Russia, usually residing in large caves far above ground, nested in volcanos and mountainsides.
Brasses usually reach up to 25 feet tall with a 230 foot wingspan, while silvers dwarf in comparison, a meager 15 feet, with a significantly shorter wingspan of 185 feet.
Tail Tail is used for sensing, as it is long and sensitive, able to feel thermal changes which would occur drastically when an animal is close behind. The soft feathered end is used to sweep up the large tracks, able to disguise hunting with ease.
Wings Large wings are used for flight. During flight, these can mold to each other or be used separately, creating more lift from WSA, but also can create more drag. Main protection, flesh is thin but strong, being made of a fiberglasslike organic material. Hollow bones to reduce weight. Insulated from the snow and keeps yaytso and ptetec safe from the harsh environment.
Body A slim body with a long neck used for slipping head into crevices, mostly slim with muscle definition, hollow bones and the lightest load possible. Legs bend like a Aves, with back legs like a Canine, allowing for speed on the ground and easier perching.
Head Spikes on chin and nose, used to establish dominance between females. Horns are used as a mating display. Black eyes with a blue pupil, used to be able to see in bright lights and snowstorms. Squared jaw is able to unhinge, and has an incredible bite force of 4800-5000 PSI for tearing apart ice and rocks to get to things, usually swallowing prey without de boning it. Feet Three-pronged talons, with long fingers and sharp claws. Has a back spur, but no back toe. Used to dig into ice and prey, able to grasp onto a ledge and fly a hunk of meat several hundred miles.
Markings Markings meant to simulate snow and trees in the night, from the bottom seeing a dark setting and from the top snow and boulders. Also used in mating displays.
Habitat - The cold mountainous region of Northern Russia, in the Arctic Circle. Hiding in caves by day and being able to jump and fly to icecaps at night to hunt. The terrain is treacherous, but they are even stronger.
Social - They are small group creatures, usually helping their family, or wherever they have been most since egg. Will bring hydrating food to sick ones, and have a mourning process. Hierarchy has seemed to have been established, with the four known families in existence having marked out agreements. Nocturnal hunters.
Very territorial, will rip you apart if you come into their territory. They work well with whoever they were raised by, and whoever their guardian is friendly with. Protective of their guardian first, will fight siblings, spouses, etc to protect them.
Mating consists of a few phases. Although they are in a family, interbreeding doesn’t usually affect a yaytso or ptenec, although some odd crosses have been born. First, the silver will bring a shiny stone, trying to impress the brass female. The brass will not take right away, but if she does not try to attack her spouse, they will move on. They will dance with each other. Then they will duel with another couple. The winning couple are officially četa. The brass will carry the yaytsa, and then the silver will nest on the yaytsa for 3 years.
There's brass’ and silver. When they age long enough, they become diamonds, which are the elders, and there are only a few. Brass’ will carry yaytsa, and are the larger of the two, taking more brunt force and are very protective over silvers. Silvers are ones that hunt, better at stalking, and are good at making wounds. četa work as a team, and when one gets sick or dies, the other becomes a Copper. They stay in and help other četa, as they cannot go out.
Clutches will usually come in 6-10, as many die during childhood or don’t hatch. Ptenecy are mute for the first ten years of their life, and gain basic speak after. They will mostly learn to use their wings, legs, tail, etc during that time. Brass and silver are discovered at maturity, when they shed their scales and get tinted ones. On the bottom of their chin, and little flecks on their belly, they will either get a brass or a silver color.
10 years, child 50 years, young adult, maturity happens 100 years, open to mate 500 years, has first clutch 3000 years, diamond 3500 years, maximum life ever recorded
:0 this is incredibly cool!!! I used to make creatures in the past, but I could only dream of having this much detail! Kudos to you for putting in the time and effort :D
@LeonardBirdstein it only took me a day being sleep deprived and a chat on discord to get it done but thanks its still rather incomplete despite it seeing as theres no backstory, dietary, skeleton, etcetera.
@Dragonfly23 haha no you dont cause half of the lore still doesn't exist
Ok. What qre their main food resources? Have there been any recorded wars between them? Is there a hierarchy between familys, like a pecking order, or ranks? I think thats it.
@Dragonfly23 they mainly hunt large animals like boars, elk, bears and canines, seemingly peaceful with smaller animals and will allow small ones to nest with them for warmth.
they have a sort of pecking order, diamonds are near the top, but its mostly just an age thing. the families rarl ely but sometimes interbreed, and the hierarchy is mixed, the four changing throughout the centuries
there have been two wars, one recorded. rovanok wars will rain bloodshed all over -continued necxt comment-
, not knowing territorial bounds. it is havok for all of russia, and other countries nearby. the only one recorded was from ???BC to 1303AD, but it would have been around 5000 years. it is called the execution because of how long it was, and the effect it had on the land. rovanok are a pretty peaceful species overall, but this war lead them spiraling down to 6 families, one getting ****** later in an attempt of human colonization.
