The rooftop of the precinct was wrapped in the darkness of night. Their shift was finally over, and Katt leaned against the railing, lazily holding a soda can in her hands. Beside her, Jack stood with his arms crossed, staring at the city lights and letting out a frustrated huff.

Katt: "The rooftop’s calmer than the precinct halls… at least for a little while."

Jack: "Tch… all because of… the new girl. She strolls in like she’s been running the place forever, you know? And boom, detective chief, just like that. And me? Forget it."

Katt: "Here we go again. Come on, let it out. You’ve been holding it in since they introduced her."

Jack: "Come on, K. We don’t know anything about her past, where she came from, and she just snatches the position I worked so hard for! And everyone’s all happy, ‘oh yes, Neo this, Neo that.’ Give me a break, miss perfect. Doesn’t it bug you?"

Katt: "Honestly, your drama bugs me more. You’ve been walking around all day with that face like a kid who just lost his toy."

Jack: "Hey… it’s not just any toy. It was MY job, MY shot at a promotion. And suddenly this chick appears out of nowhere and BAM! She takes it."

Katt: "Ugh… you are so dramatic…"

Jack: "Well, hey, at least she’s hot. That’s something."

Katt: "You are so basic! Seriously? That’s all you’ve got to say?"

Jack: "Bah, come on… you know it’s not the only thing. It just gives me a bad feeling that we know nothing about her past. She’s like a ghost, no one, no trace."

Katt: "I see her differently. There’s something about her, you know? She gives off good vibes. She’s got character, looks like she won’t be pushed around. I think she can handle us."

Jack: "Good vibes? Nobody shows up out of nowhere with a clean record and isn’t hiding something."

Katt: "Exactly why I like her. She’s not like the others. And honestly… I get the feeling she’s going to pull us out of trouble more than once."

Jack: "And what if she’s hiding something shady? I’ve got a feeling she’s hiding something big, K."

Katt: "And what if you’re hiding a soft heart under that whole cheap bar Latin lover act?"

Jack: "Hey, hey, Latin lover, yes… but cheap bar? You’re gonna pay for that, morena."

Katt: "Well then, win the next poker game and we’ll talk."

Jack: "Deal. But just so you know, when I win, you’re going to admit I’m more than just a pretty face and muscles."

Katt: "Yeah, yeah, sure… the complete man. Now come down from the clouds, Don Juan."

The two cops, friends since they could remember, laughed together as the city lights shimmered beneath their feet.

It's nice to see that Neo wasn't accepted with open arms from the get-go, and shows that she had the ability to control them and prove herself to be worthy of her title!
