SCOTT PILGRIOM RANT !!!!! by me because i was thinking about scott pilgrim while mopping today bad grammar i hate writing so i willnot try . also this is all from memory get on my level
PART 1! Characters

There are a lot of things that Scott Pilgrim takes off removed about the characters that I think we’re very important to the story and to their relationships with everyone else, likefor starters ramonas whole character in the show .! In the books, ramona is a very complex character like the most complex character in the series but we do not know much about her because she refuses to share anything about her past. In the books she dyes her hair a lot because shes constantly trying to escape her past, every time something greatly upsets her or reminds her of her time with Gideon she cuts and dyes her hair, essentially trying to restart again and again. Thats why she refuses to tell anyone about her past , because she is trying to escape it. In the show (scott pilgrim takes off) she has the same hairstyle throughout the whole show, just various colors but they are still all died different in the same spots and this like completely changes the meaning behind her changing her hair , and even without changing her hairstyle throughout the show they couldve saved this by having her explain why she dyes her hair so much like they do in scott pilgrim book 6, but they never do. I always see the show praised for “fixing” Ramona's character by redeeming it, but i think that this is completely incorrect. The show focuses so much on ramonas character that they dumbed down everyone else's significantly, making no other character relatable except for roxie. They also did not bother redeeming scotts character which makes him look so much worse than ramona, id even say they made him worse by not explaining why hes with knives. Youd think that if they were trying to make scott pilgrim more modern and better than they would at least explain why scott was with a high schooler or completely remove that part. In the books hes not with her because hes a creep, hes with her to prove to either himself or everyone around him that hes over envy when he is very much not (he should not have ever been with knives but its important to the story that he is). The books are about how everyone is a bad person, everyone in scott pilgrim is SUPPOSED TO BE A BAD PERSON!! The books we’re highly praised before the show came out for all the characters feeling so real, like everyone could relate at least one character to someone they knew because bryan lee o’malley (author/illustrator for anyone who doesnt know) based most of them off people he knew, making sure to keep their flaws and insecurities. In the show they made everyone a dumb stereotype, removing the relatability and complexity of everyone, including ramona who they were trying so hard to make complex. In the books, which take course over a year) ramona and scott and shown to be trying to make their relationship work despite them both being bad people who are bad for each other. It acknowledges that change takes time and not everyone is ready to change. In the show it feels like it only takes 3 days of like 1 of ramonas exes saying that she hurt her feelings for ramona to completely change herself to be better. It takes more than one conversation to fix someone as messed up as ramona. She was always a jerk but gideon made it so much worse for her, gideon never showed her affection and replied to her affection by treating her like she was desperate and obsessed with him. This shows in ramonas character throughout the whole series. One way being ramonas head glowing to symbolize her internal conflict every time shes reminded of gideon or feels any of the insecurities gideon gave her throughout their relationship. Gideon is EVIL he abuses WOMEN AND CRYOGENICALLY FREEZES HIS EXES!!! The show making him a slob whos just like a fool and making him seem less evil makes me SICK. okay im done writing this part im bored but theres more i could rant about TRUSTME….

PART 2!!!! Scott pilgrim book/movie hate is invaild becuause i said so
Every time i see someone talk about the show fixing the whole series before its release my face like turns red and steam comes out of my ears. The argument is always like “oh they fixed ramona!” and all the evidence they use is from the movie. Most of ramonas character development is in the last two books which were not finished while the movie was being scripted. The last book came out on july 20th 2010 (from memory) (i know its correct scott pilgrim is my passion) and the movie was released on August 13 2010 (from memory) which was less than a month after. The movie is also a little over an hour long, obviously the characters are not going to be super complex, i mean like the twins voice actors didnt even speak english so all their dialogue was scrapped. The movie was made to appeal to a wider audience, nobody cares about scott and ramona growing as people and improving their relationship thats borrinnnggggg. The movie was focused more of visual effects than the characters, but i still think they did a better job at presenting them than the show. The end of the movie is nothing like the last two books obviously because they werent finished but the last two books alone where 500x better than the show. The show is buns and boring every scene feels like its dragging on and every character is annoying.

Part 3! Bad gay rep. Yeah.

The show not keeping stephen as a beautiful gay man KILLS ME. The show making todd gay isnt a crime but the way its executed IS. in the books todd is a dumb white boy who bacame vegan in hopes of approval from his dad, which he has never gotten before and is shown to affect him like a whole lot. In the show hes a stupid white boy who gets his freak on with wallace and then become gay and thats his whole character. His whole entire character becomes being gay and desperate. It hurts. They even took away him being vegan, COME ON!!!!! I really do not think that the way they present todd and his sexuality is savory at all. As a gay man i do not want one of the only gay characters in the show to be show being obsessed with wallace and crying and slamming his head on the ground like a child when wallace rejects him. Them making wallace like only care about todds body also is not great. I feel like they dumbed wallace down to not caring about anyone and just liking saygex30000. In the books he is shown to be sxually active but also shown to care deeply about all his friends, even if he has a little bit of an attitude. The show making him not care at all about scott hurts me sSOBAD!!!!eugjdjehj. In the books wallace is constantly shown to be looking out for scott, like for example him getting mad just at the thought of envy because of how much she hurt scott. Wallace obviously cares a lot about scott i mean like heck bro wallace has had dinner with scott and his parents in the books. In the show wallace is only shown being a normal gay person for like 1 minute with mobile. The show definitely could’ve made todd gay without making him act like a child when he cant sleep with wallace and wallace could have been shown to care about anyone more than their bodies until the last episode. ALSO I REALLY WISH THAT THEY KEPT STEPHEN GAY AND KEPT HIS BOYFRIEND AS A CHARACTER I LOVE STEPHEN AND HIS BF SO MUCH

Part 4: ilove the books! Wow! Yay!
I feel like the books did a very good job of making everyone it could not be a background character, even if it was something small like showing them interacting with scott in college. Everyone has so much personality even if they are not that important to the story. Like sandra and monique, who are two girls that just go to parties and gossip, they have their own stories of things that happen to them that arent included in the story. And neil not wanting to be called young neil and just everything is so great. Also for knives in the show to be like “scott…i missed you while you were gone but…maybe you being gone for 3 days was just what i needed..” while in the show you watch her slowly get over scott and learn that she can be her without him. She figures out that scott was never good to her and its all great and so fun im tired of writing ok gbye i could say so much morethough I REMEMEBER THE DAY THE SHOW CAME OUT. IT WAS 8 AM NOVEMBER 17TH 2023 AND SUDDENLY THERE WAS SO MUCH SPTO CONTENT THAT YOU COULDNT FIND ANYTHING FORM THE BOOKS IT HURT SO BAD.
