Indeed : ) Never stop practicing. Even the best artists take time out to study and practice from time to time.
The tutorial I set up was based on a metalic material. Different materials reflect/refract light in different ways and furthermore differ by surface texture. So there really is multiple ways to shade a ball.

Your ball kinda reminds me of a type of polyester plastic ball, kinda like one from a ball-pit. Too bad ball-pits are becoming something of a relic from a bygone era.
