LUNA AND CELESTIA
Luna is princess of the moon, and is a nocturnal alicorn, Celestia's little sister.
Celestia is princess of the sun, is a daytime alicorn. she rises the sun, the opposite of luna.
lore| Luna felt her moon and night were overlooked by her sister's sun and day, and filled with rage, became Nightmare Moon, wanting to rule equestria in eternal night. Celestia fought her and sent her to the moon for 1000 years. 1000 years later (next comment)

Twilight Sparkle, an antisocial unicorn, Celestia's student, was sent to ponyville to make friends. She and her assistant, Spike, met 5 ponies. Pinkie Pie, an earth pony, Applejack, another earth pony, Rarity, a unicorn, Rainbow Dash, a pegasus, and Fluttershy, another pegasus. This just so happened to be when Nightmare Moon returned, and The Mane 6, with the Elements of Harmony, defeat her.

The six's elements are this..
Twilight: Magic

Rarity: Generosity
Rainbow Dash: Loyalty
Fluttershy: Kindness
Pinkie Pie: Laughter
