Tips:
. when using the lighten/darken/softAir brushes, set the opacity bar low, then repeatedly tap and stroke around the area that you want to shade/lighten. I usually keep them around 10-20%.
. shade wraps around the whole ball, but is more pronounced at the opposite end from the light source.
. Practice makes perfect. retry as often as you'd like.

eee-- this is perfect as I just started a drawing of an old dog ceramic I was gifted, it's got a shiny protection coat, and i was struggling some to figure out how to mimic it digitally

I really hope this helps. : ) Ceramic's slick texture can be difficult to replicate in a digital painting. I suppose the order of applying detail could make all the difference.
