@mcollins
For the most part, I'm with yo there. I usually use references all the time as well, however, I think it's good to stretch your imagination and mind's eye from time to time.

@TTB910
In my case, I've been using coloring books, and drawing for as long as I can remember. I've heard it said that by doing something for a thousand hours, you become a master at it. Well, between Colors3D on 3DS and ColorsLive on Switch, I've put 4,000+ hours into digital painting, and the occasional doodle.

Put simply, practice makes perfect, and I've been doing this for a long time.
If you are passinate about art, and this something you want to do, keep at it. You'll figure it out.

The_Adjudicator

12 Jun, 2025, 1:02 am

@TTB910
I'd be honored to. Just remember, you might not see big improvements all at once. It'll probably take time and a lot of effort.

For a good start, feel free to mention me either in a comment or description if you'd like my feedback on something you've drawn.

Lastly, don't be afraid to use references when you're painting something. In my painting class, my instructor layed objects in the center of the room, and had us paint what we saw from our individual perspective.

The_Adjudicator

12 Jun, 2025, 2:53 am

@TTB910
There's several ways to use references:
You could use the QR code system,
you could set up another screen (computer monitor, smartphone, etc...),
photograph,
Object placed on table,
and so on.

You can draw or paint them however you like. Just have a go t it.
Sometimes I'll use objects in a scene, to represent another object or character, and use the object as a study for pose or perspective.

@TTB910
Go right ahead. Thank you for asking. : )

The_Adjudicator

18 Jun, 2025, 3:44 am

@ben234
I draw like this when I get an idea. I suppose I've studied enough, and have been doing this long enough, that I can start drawing lines about where I think they ought to be, make some minor adjustments where needed, and just let the flow take over until I'm satisfied with the results. Just for reference, I've been drawing digital art like this almost 12 years now, and I've been drawing for as long as I can remember.

@The_Adjudicator yo someone that goes by @Hannah16 stole ur art and didnt crdit u, i reccomend turning remix off

The_Adjudicator

28 Jun, 2025, 6:57 pm

@Gnab_nahcX3
I made this remixable so that other artists can remix/share it on their own galleries. Anyone can see that others remixed it, and come to my gallery to see the original. It's already received a bunch more new likes for it. Really, I should thank Hannah for helping grow my presence here. : )

Gnab_nahcX3

28 Jun, 2025, 7:10 pm

@The_Adjudicator ohhhh ok ok! mb abt the mixup, they js didmt give credit to u nd it kinda got me mad, amazng drawing btw!

The_Adjudicator

28 Jun, 2025, 7:39 pm

@Gnab_nahcX3
While plagiarism is indeed a problem, and I would prefer credit be given to the original artist, At least here on Colorslive it's easy to trace back to the source material when remixing something. Besides, I'm not monetizing anything in my Gallery, so it's not like I'm at risk of loosing customer value when others repost something on their page. But I should thank you as well for the concerns.

:O no way.. please teach me your ways :pray:

The_Adjudicator

24 Aug, 2025, 4:36 pm

@avataranime-gurl
I'd be happy to teach you what I can. : )

I often use references as a study material. The more I study the physical appearance of something, the more confident I become to paint it from memory, or without reference.
For example; this dragon eye. I have some pictures I:ve aken of reptiles such as lizards, snakes, etc.., and I sometimes find myself staring at them, and running scenarios in my mind of how I might paint their eyes on my Switch.

The_Adjudicator

24 Aug, 2025, 4:40 pm

(Continued)
Some of them I have set on rotation for my desktop background. I've seen them so many times, that I could describe them, with some accuracy, from memory. With enough practice, you can translate that bility to describe detail, into painting said details.

If you're passionate about becoming a better artist, keep practicing. You'll get better over time, I promise. I've been doing this for over a decade. If you compare some of my earliest work, to my most recent, you'll see growth.

avataranime-gurl

24 Aug, 2025, 4:52 pm

i need to be more chill and not rush art, thats the main issue for me, as you can see my timeing on art its like 15 to 20 minutes or even 10. its because im very energetic with art and sometimes i need to be more relaxed then feeling like to race.

avataranime-gurl

24 Aug, 2025, 4:53 pm

but i feel like ive gotten much better! overall i need to work with digital art and try to learn more, im sadly more of a traditional artist but i love digital, i just need practice like you said! :D

The_Adjudicator

@Tinkabelle
I have many years of practice here. : ) Practice makes perfect.

Tinkabelle

21 Sep, 2025, 9:40 am

trueeee i like 2 say im okay at drawing and digitaly drawing helps some how for me i draw like a anime goofy style i guess what would u say your art styles like??

The_Adjudicator

23 Sep, 2025, 2:04 am

@Tinkabelle
I thnk my style is a pseudo-realism. I like to try my best with realistic details, and I Occasionally try my hand at photo realism. But when it comes to originals, I usually try to keep references to a minimum to stretch my imagination.

Tinkabelle

25 Sep, 2025, 2:08 pm

cool so whats petseo realsim if u dont mind me asking

The_Adjudicator

25 Sep, 2025, 10:43 pm

@Tinkabelle
It seems I made a typo XD I meant Pseudo-realism.
"Speudo" means that is is almost, or not quite there. While I can do photo-realism with the help of photo references, making true realism in the traditional meaning is something I'm not quite experienced with yet.
