After The Planet X arc (before he can leave), major characters from the solar system are transported to the Earth, where their old bodies are reverted into hostless husks.
Earth, upon transport, recieves a broken leg after he feigns the ability to stand up. The sheer pain he felt as a planet is incompatible with a human, I'd assume. He never truely recovers from the psychological impact of his injuries. Today, he often uses a wheelchair.
