Cats are loaf of breads with fur. by FadeyTalez

1. Tracing vs Referencing:
I see alot of people complain and say, "Referencing is bad, its as bad as tracing!" firstly no, secondly just no. they are whole two different things.
Tracing is when a person is physically going out of their way to instead of learning and practicing to copy off of someones work.
On the other hand using a reference is more efficient, every artist in history didnt just magically know anatomy or structure, they studied and used references to learn said structure and etc.

It also depend if your tracing out of your own work, now thats a whole other thing.

2. Bad art:
No art is ever bad, ok, as you grow you learn, i see people saying their art is bad and your's is amazing, ok ngl i used to be like that to, but it helped to have supporting people by my side.
Your never gonna get good if you dont challenge your mental space, fight the inner critic thoughts, You are good! your learning and your growing, its never a straight path with art just flow with it you'll win.

3. Passion:
Now this is when you ask yourself, is art your passion?, is it your future career? is it something you see yourself grow into a forever hobby?.
Knowing whether or not art is the road you wanna take is a hard decision, as i grew up i dreamed of being a wildlife ranger, then i got into art, then i really wanted to be a professional animator.
I say if it makes you happy don't throw it away, instead mold yourself into it and if it isn't your thing in the end, try something new!

I still had a few things to say for the third one but i'll let you guys discover it yourself ^w^

4. Shapes:
This is more of a tip then a guide but whatever, anyways shapes is an amazing thing to use when you wanna design a character, it helps with anatomy but also makes your character stand out!
for example the basic shapes are; the circle, signifying a bubbly and vulnerable character, the square signifying a strong and trustworthy character and the triangle signifying a sharp and cunning char.

And sometime you can mix it up! for more intriguing characters!

5. Conclusion:
I think, you shouldn't let doubt and fear take away what you artists love most, art is how we express ourselves, maybe its your way of getting people to listen when you been ignored your whole life, artists are amazing, because the fact that we can draw these amazing things from the top of our head is because we can see our world in a beautiful new light thats unique from others.

I hope this helps!

Excellent advice for the new generation of artists here. ^_^
Couldn't have said it better myslf.

If I could throw in my own two cents, I'd say that art is an expression of you; It shows who you were, who you are, and it will eventually show who you are becoming. Your skills as an artist will grow with you, and will continue to grow even after you've reached full maturity yourself.

Don't let your young age and maturity discourage you from seeing who you may become with time and practice.

Agreed! I have pursued art in bursts, when I feel like it, because I know it won't be a career for me. But I enjoy the time I spend on it.
Enjoyed the discussion of shape and characters. I suppose you can combine that with limbs closer to the body being more reserved, and limbs more spread out more outgoing, etc.
Sometimes it helps to make your character in silhouette first to see how the general shapes read.
Some artists are really good at modifying anatomy to bring out calligraphy like shapes. I am poor at that, since I tend to do less hard brushes. Would like to get better at it.
As to reference, it is great to use. Just remember, you don't have to draw exactly what it looks like. You are just using it for what you want to learn.
For some sites with reference, etc. folks can check here #referencetips
