Of love and trickery- a retelling of eros and psyche

the princess psyche was loved loudly
most known for beauty
greater than the dusk sun
more beautiful than rain when the sun is high
greater than roses in the snow
yet she lived quitely
the people abandoned their duty of worship to Aphrodite
instead loving psyche

to Aphrodite this was challenge
they believed that psyche had greater beauty
than a goddess
she Couldn't stand it
prue blasphemy in her eyes

eros, son of Aphrodite
he who couples lovers with the prick of an arrow
more powerful than Zeus they say
for the power of love is greater that strength

Aphrodite says to eros:

eros,sonofmine
there is a woman in a kingdom
with greater beauty than mine
i send you away to find her
and couple her with a monster so hideous
the gods even fear it
may you go to her while she rests
and strike her with an arrow.''

eros says to his mother:

''of course mother
for no one should have greater beauty
than you
but may i ask
does she have family?''

Aphrodite answered:

''yes my son
for she has a mother, a father
and her sisters aglaura and cidippe
there will be no need of punishment to the others
for they are faithful.''

to who he answered:

''yes mother.''

so when night fall
amd psyche lay to rest
eros sets out to fly to her
but for when he gets to her window
her beauty was too overwhelming
he stabs himself with his arrow
and for he falls in love
with his mothers enemy

psyche had always wanted love
so to prophet apollo she went
down the great chasms of the underworld

to him she spoke:

''O great prophet apollo
to you i ask
will i be wed perhaps?
will i be loved?
to who will i be wed to?''

the prophet spoke:

''why yes lady psyche
you will be wed
but to who you ask?
well you will be wed to a monster
the gods even fear him
you will be loved
and you will love him.''

psyche responded:

''thank you prophet apollo.''

and so she wept
on a cliffside in the underworld
she could not love a monster
she would be ridiculed
she thought
and so he appears
zephyrus, the west wind

to psyche he spoke:

''hello lady psyche
i've been ordered by higher power
to be an escort
taking you to your husbands palace
for i will carry you there.''

and there they went

when psyche arrived no one greeted her
she opened the great white doors
to nothing but darkness
for when she called out
no one answered

she called out again:

''is there anybody in the palace?
is my husband here?
is there someone to answer my plead?''

and someone did answer:

''yes i am your husband
for i've been forever cursed to be shrouded in darkness
i hope you can still love what you dont see
i've forgotten what i look like.''

to which she responded:

''it is alright my dear
but may i ask
why do the gods fear you?''

to which he spoke:

''i am more powerful than them
but only if i can see.''

and so she asked:

''may i invite my sisters to talk?''

he spoke to her:

''yes you may''
