She didn't consider it stealing...

Stealing is what the king had done, when he pressed her husband into service, throwing away his life to save the royal manor.
He had stolen him from her, and with him, the food from their table.
She was taking what was owed.
First the axe--more for battle than wood-cutting. She found it on the field near where he had fallen.
And now the king's forest would provide for her. If she could avoid the king's servants, the animals, and bandit's who prowl the night.
And if she was found, she would join him all the sooner...
