Here's a random fact about garter snakes: They are venomous, they need to "chew" repeatedly to get the venom out, and their venom is not strong enough to harm humans in any quantity a single garter snake could muster. They're essentially harmless to you.
@The_Adjudicator cool! and i love hognose snakes! did you know that a LOT of people mix-up poisonous snakes for venomous ones? and that there are only 2 poisonous species of poisonous snakes in the world, one of which is only poisonous after eating certain things?
@_-foxylily-_ Indeed, most people don't know the difference between poisonous, and venomous.
I don't think I've ever come dangerously close to a venomous snake yet. I'm more lkely to run into rattlesnakes where I live. I have, however, handled a black widow spider before though.
If there were a venoumous snake I'd like to see up close, it would be one of those brighty colored Asian vipers. What magnificent creatures they are.
@The_Adjudicator same with the Asian vipers, AND YES I'm ALWAYS correcting people nicely for mixing-up P&V, sometimes i like to recite this saying, ''venom is injected, poison is ingested (or touched)''
@_-foxylily-_ @The_Adjudicator I was jogging (first mistake) in Denver Colorado years ago and almost stepped on a rattle snake in the middle of the sidewalk, which I saw at the last moment. I jumped about ten feet sideways, and kept running, but in a much more paranoid state.
@tall73 OH MY GOSH ARE YOU LUCKY! that could have gone very badly. though adults in good health are usually ok when they get bit, just swelling and nausea. though still be careful lol.
@tall73 I'd likely have had the same response in a scenario like that, but then out of fascination, I woud stop jogging and get just close enough to the snake to get a good macro picture of it.
I know techniques for "safely" handling dangerous animals, but I also have the brains to know that it's not really a good idea to utilize these particular set of skills recreationally.
idk much abt snakes, but i know they don't have the part of the brain that feels love! also, what's a "hognose snake" the only snakes i know are corn snakes, rattle snakes, and gardener snakes(or is it guarder snake?) and the cutest of those is prob the corn snake.
@V_The_Artst corn snakes are adorable! and yeah, It's 'garder snake'. hognose snakes, i believe, are actually kinda funny. they have an up-turned 'nose', and if they get scared, they play d3ad! you can basically do anything with them while they are in this state, they will only wake up when you leave! They're basically snake pranksters XD

I've got snake trivia for days.
Did you know that not all snake breeds lay eggs? Some breeds give live-birth.
The largest pythons are able to go a whole year off just one or two meals if they catch a large enough prey.
Garter snakes, and other small breeds are known to ward off potential threats by "musking".
Hognose snakes are objectively the cutest snakes. That's a fact, not an opinion.
