@NextSwitch-S2 thanks for your comment! Yes airbender was fantastic! their art style is amazing how did we get on that topic? I don't believe in supernatural events like reincarnation or like the biblical miracles such as resurrection, but I like the message of the bible. It's like ancient wisdom and being secular means I extract the symbolic meaning like compassion, mindfulness, and personal growth which most religions boil down to.
@NextSwitch-S2 no, there are no scientific evidence that lucid dreaming has any influence on real life. I dont understand why you are talking about dreaming anyway! im sorry I have to delete your comments, lets try to stay on topic or feel free to write me a personal message on discord :)
Well, that's like saying your own thoughts and opinions never influence your actions.
Normal lucid dreams won't hurt your brain, The dreams only seem to have a higher chance of interrupting your REM cycle (required for mental health) if you try to force lucid dreams to happen artificially through medication, audiotherapy or intense meditation. Still it will likely happen at some point, usually once you've started your first growing up crisis, it will happen at least once.
DaVinci actually made blueprints that always had fake information in them, otherwise he might have competition try to steal his designs. The fake element in the blueprint could often be so humorous it should've been obvious to anyone after failure to replicate the reults of the invention.
lol @NextSwitch-S2 no that's not what I'm saying at all, we were talking about dreams , because obviously I agree with you, our thoughts and opinions influence your actions, that's true . It's even true if you want something in your dreams , you probably want that in real life too so to some extend your previous message was also true. but we both are adults we have no reason to yap this randomly I totally feel silly discussing with you about dreams , I wonder what made you start that topic? But it's nice to hear you I hope you have a good day!
Alright, thanks! also I just got my shopping done for the week! So that's cool. Now I just need to save my money for more important things like tweezers, food, hygiene, warm clothes, mouthwash, bandages, & teeth floss, (i have to say "tooth" floss, in case you're british) or college
@NextSwitch-S2 its shopping time for me too haa I bought a new harddrive for my pc this week, going to get Assassin creed Odysee and Origins, both just 10 dollar this week. I'm more interested in the historical setting and mythology than the actual games :D I also bought new paint and brushes for expiriments on paper..
Knowing the integrity of witness testimony, I can't help but wonder, if someone were to find a way to travel back in time and record these events in detail, how well would the witness testimonial descriptions of these events match up with the actual events caught on camera? (under the assumption that it isn't all fiction in the first place, though there's sufficient evidence that the Biblical events are very plausible). Just some more shower room thoughts.
Why does the Last Supper painting look like Jesus sudgested they split the bill evenly, and dudes just weren't having it? ,':l "Hey man I just had water and bread sticks :unamused: " [IT'S A MEME I SWEAR I'M NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANYONE]
@The_Adjudicator yes thanks for your comment :D Although the last supper is mentioned in all the four gospels, I dont think that counts as 'sufficient evidence'. it's true people sat on big tables to eat, even possibly made it into a spiritual or ritual event, so to that extent we can agree it has somehow some truth. But I doubt the reliability of any event described by witnesses 2000 years ago, and the bible never was meant as an historical document, they are religious texts meant to convey spiritual and moral truths, and their primary purpose was not to provide a detailed, objective account of events. I think it's a waste of time to debate the historical accuracy of the event instead maybe it can be useful to consider the purpose of this event like sacrifice , love for humanity, community, sharing, and remembrance. :)
@madwurmz Funny you should mention debating the accuracy of historical events, seeing as most people can't even recall with accuracy what they had for breakfast the day before, let alone a historical record written (usually) years or even generations after the event occured, by the winners of a conflict, or a biased opinion that "I am right and you were wrong, and my victory proves it", on parchment that was often times doctored to make the author appear more ideal than they actually were.
That is to say, I have reason to prove that the Bible has been tampered with throughout the many generations before its widespread publications, many references I can point to within the Bible itself, including the codexes that are used as translation standards, which differ from one another in many ways.
That being said, contrary to the materials I study, and the beliefs I hold, I would say I'm a devout Christian, and still wholeheartedly agree with what you said. The message is what matters.
@The_Adjudicator yes indeed! I think it's fascinating, and frustrating, to think about how much the bible has been rewritten. Thats part of why I lean towards agnosticism, I see no definitive proof of a god in these stories.
But I do view them as ancient wisdom, stories that teach ethics, morality, and values that connect us as humans. It’s interesting how the bible has evolved to fit an ever-changing world, but maybe we even need a ‘new’ new Bible, one that resonates with today’s generation of secular nonbelievers. Something that reflects modern values while still offering spiritual guidance. I feel like a version like that, blending spirituality with nature and humanity, might align with me better—like a new kind of Protestant Reformed take for someone like me :D
@madwurmz I think you might be interested in some Mormon philosophy. I don't bring this up often, but there's a series given by a BYU philosophy professor name Truman G. Madsen titled -Timeless Questions with Gospel Insights- that I find to be an interesting discussion piece. It's an eight part lecture series, so there's a lot to take in. I'm pretty sure someone posted the lectures to Youtube for ease of access.
There's some fascinating stuff in there if you've got the time and interest.
It might not align with your ideas perfectly, but there's some big nuggets of food for thought in there.
On a side note, there's another faith system that's I've been th8nking to look into called Krishna. (I could be wrong but) the impression I've gotten from it so far is that it tries to blend Christianity with Hindi beliefs and practices. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I haven't had much opportunity to look into it yet.
@The_Adjudicator Ha, thanks! I'm checking out that YouTube series, I like it. Truman Madsen is a smart speaker, but I’m skeptical because he’s super Christian. He references Greek philosophers but skips Greek mythology. When searching for big answers, why not explore more ancient stories? There are parallels between Bible stories and older myths that make me doubt the Bible’s claims to truth.
Mormons are Christians, right? To clarify, I’m mostly agnostic and atheist, I don’t believe in Jesus. A quiz suggested my beliefs align with Buddhism, but I don’t do rituals, so I’m more of a secular Buddhist.
When I mentioned wanting a “Protestant Reformed” new Bible, I meant it literally: a reformation to protest and reformat—a Bible for skeptics, written by skeptics. For example, the Last Supper is just a story about love, sharing, and sacrifice for the greater good. And symbolically drinking his blood and eating his flesh feels like an ancient ritual updated for modern times.
To me, Jesus is more of an archetype, adding narrative to older sun god stories. I know that’s against your faith, but I think the Bible could be rewritten to preserve its essence, without requiring faith in a bearded god who sent his son to take the fall for our sins.
Sorry for long message, Im trying to stay on topic! :)
@madwurmz No worries, I get where you're going. As far as I'm concerned, I'd Mormon's are Christian, though their beliefs deviate from many other traditions is a way that most other Christian faiths would disagree (even though, ironically, AI pieced together that they more closely resemble the original thurch as layed out in the Bible than any other Christian faith). But that's neither here nor there.
Here's a Bible passage that I thing goes under the radar for too many people that I think you'll agree with, Philippians 4:8, which in short is -anything true, honest, just, pure, lovely and/or is of good report; if there's any virtue or praise, think on these things.-
Perhaps I take it a bit too far for some people, but I like to look for those traits in anything, regardless of the source.
I enjoy having these conversatons with you, and I'd love to hear more about your choice virtues.
As for a secular Bible, I think what you might be looking for is a book of Universal History, one that presents the history from multiple perspectives (ie: Gospel of nations), Tells it from the word of witnesses and survivors, then teaches principles of behavior that would -hopefully- help generations learn to avoid repeating the mistakes of their ancestors. Does that sound about right?
@The_Adjudicator ha ok! You mention some interesting topics! I think we can't agree all the time though, because my interest also goes into disproving the Abrahamic religions. I'm trying to find a book title I heard about , but my browser history is too crowded.. Maybe it was 'Oneness: Great Principles Shared by All Religions' , well, you get the idea from the title. That sounds interesting to me but unfortunatly I don't actually read books, instead I browse too much and there is really too much interesting content around and not enough time! Sometimes I get into some topic and make notes about it, then it becomes some temporarly obsession. Like usually around christmas I'm into studying the Bible. Currently I actually started playing assassin's creed odyssey, they made big effort in trying to show ancient greece day to day life, with their rituals and worthshipping their gods. Really fun to see close-up and technically also impressive and beautiful. It's themes dominate my google searches now and then on the topic, I can say about the last supper, the Olympic games did a show that had a controversial opening ceremony but actually that was inspired by Dionysus, one of the gods of the mountain Olympus, known for his wine parties , where he sat around a table with his followers! :)
@madwurmz I find myself fascinated by a multitude of things as well. And believe it or not, I wish you luck in disproving Abrahamic religions. At the very least, disproving the dogmas that have crept in throughout the centries. Things like a 6K year old earth (the fossil record tells a different story). I've learned for myself that the principles Jesus taught are correct. Can't argue with the benefits of -going the extra mile-.
And though I've never played an Assassin's creed game, I do admire the authenticity of their original series of games, and what they pulled off on that old school hardware. I have a similar experience playing Monster Hunter World. The developers of that game were sent on Safaris to study real world animals in their natural habitat, so they could apply it to the monster's AI. Just the other day, my sweetheart and I, in game, just followed some monsters around and observed their behavior.
@The_Adjudicator ha yes, obviously Im not personally going around disproving the old testament, so I dont need good luck, I'm already convinced on that view! :D I simply mean I enjoy those kind of debates on youtube. there is Alex O'Connor, some dude doing interviews, and I like MythVision Podcast, that explore myths and history, I'm hooked to that stuff I wish I could quote all his material. @XaimsXhttps@Mayor_Wiggles ha yeah the da Vince code is pure fiction, but actually Maria Magdalena might have had a more important role in Jesus his life but they erased most of her story from the Bible. I actually don't believe most of the Bible so don't listen to me on this topic hehe

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me."

@XaimsXhttps @Mayor_Wiggles ha yeah the da Vince code is pure fiction, but actually Maria Magdalena might have had a more important role in Jesus his life but they erased most of her story from the Bible. I actually don't believe most of the Bible so don't listen to me on this topic hehe
