(Possible TW) Because no one speaks on it much, here's some info about it, along with a POV!
While yes, the first thing you think of when someone says OCD may be "Clean" or "Symmetry", that doesn't mean it's the only reason it's diagnosed.
It all (Mainly) Stems from the minds constent intrusive thoughts! Everybody gets them, but people with OCD may have thoughts that will linger and be more vivid, causing actual distress to the individual who experiences them

These thoughts can be anything, too! It could be about the death of someone, having su!c!idal thoughts, harming to oneself or another or even taboo thinking. All usually never happening!
While it may seem weird or gross to you, people who have this disorder get these thoughts quite often, leading inti compulsions to soothe themselfs from this anxiety

Some of these compulsions can be checking, washing/cleaning, ordering/arranging, control, counting, hoarding/collecting items, rituals, and even avoidance.
It's why you would see someone constently cleaning or checking the doors. It's to help self soothe, in a way.

These thoughts, depending on how intense they are, can really inpact someones life.
For example, someone with OCD might just be alone in their living room, when a family member walks in or chats with them. The person might start having taboo thoughs or harming them, so they might try to leave the room or do something to self soothe.
It's not a thing they can just make "disappear", ether. It's a constent ******* thing that can make, even doing basic tasks, tricky sometimes

Some reasons people MIGHT have OCD, is due from genetics, brain structure, environment factors, or other mental health conditions that might co-occur.
While this may not be talked about in media, it is not a rare disorder. Though, that does NOT mean every one has it!
This is my short info dump for OCD, and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! I will probably add more randomly (maybe)

@ChilliPitchers_ OH MY GOD THEY DO :sob:
"Erm, acthuly, it isn't just a cleaning disorder :point_up_2:"
17 Oct, 2024, 3:13 am
@ChilliPitchers_ Exactly! I was most likely born from it (Given my mum has OCD (I'm VERY skeptical about that) and my dad has traits/might also be OCD), so I can't give the best reasons as to what causes.
But from things I've looked up, it can be due to over control in like a family situation, trauma, and pressure from stuff (Like trying to be orderly or perfectionist, or just how your family/people interact with you)
17 Oct, 2024, 3:19 am
@ChilliPitchers_ I don't think it's like a trigger in the brain. Nothing happens automatically, it's a slow progression into anything, including this.
And yes, it may also appear later in life (I'm pretty sure, don't quote me on that :skull:)

@ChilliPitchers_ LOL :sob:

@ChilliPitchers_ Depending on things, yeah. OCD can range to very little to severly impacting!

I've suffered from OCD my whole life. It's really caused a lot of problems in my personal life, but I've been learning to handle it. Thanks for bringing awareness!

@CrazyRiverOtter No problem man! It's something I've struggled with aswell, but I'm happy to bring, at least some awareness, to people who don't know much/haven't payed much mind to! ^^

@Rose-Lily
Hey, the main thing is intrusive thoughts. It's how we manage it, that can differ! As long as you're staying safe, I'm proud of you for looking on the brighter side of things! A disorder like that can be tough to live with ^^
