He's one of Alice's old university teachers and one of her favourite teachers of all time, they have some epical lore together because after his last students graduated he quit teaching and accidentally ended up in the same job as Alice so they became close friends for a while. He worked in this shady lab caring for lab grown monsters, it wasn't legal but it payed well. They also helped provide a little bit of comfort and humanity for the monsters.
