petals are known for staying near cool water, but not because they swim. they like to decorate themselvess with flowers so other hyper beasts think they are the prettiest, however they will get dirty with their natural enemies, naturists and frus. They can grow flowers around them when they are upset.

Most likely complementing them to keep them happy and calm to tame is the most successful approach.
