Don't quit.
We all have our spurts.

Saying "I quit" makes it more likely to not pick it back up. "Taking a break" makes it easier to come back.

And there's nothing wrong with breaks.

Putting ones expectations to hight is going to hurt anything. I wouldn't say to lower the expectations, but don't be so lofty it's unreasonable.

A good runner should never wake up one day and decide he's going to beat Olympic records that day. Can he work to it? Yes, but not in a single day. Maybe not even in a few years. But if he gives up on that first day or few months, he'd never see just where he can go.

Unreasonable expectations are probably the biggest road blocks.
