Persona (before Games) :
Samantha, before the Games, was extremely kind hearted and sympathetic. She was understanding towards others, easy to talk to, and was usually pretty helpful in general. She had a lot of friends and was just an enjoyable person to be around. Not much else to it, honestly. That being said, the only notable thing was that she was extremely trustworthy - to the point of where people would just tell her shit and know she’d keep their secrets. She has memorized said secrets over the years.
Persona (after Games) :
Samantha is, in all honesty, not a great person after her Games. She’s gone a bit more sour, far easier to get annoyed compared to how she used to. She’s, at least outwardly, a passive aggressive a-hole. She only has soft spots for the mentors from her district (Mags, Finnick, and Annie, mainly) and her younger brother.
Although she wouldn’t physically hurt anyone over being annoyed, she will spread rumors about anyone and everyone who ticks her off. How true these rumors are varies.
Even while being kind to someone, Sam can be oddly detached, never seeming entirely sure on what to say or how to say it. She’s better at showing things like appreciation through actions rather than words, though.
Likes : Swimming, flowers, playing checkers, pretty clothes in general, and any sort of sweet foods.
Dislikes : Cold weather, the Capitol (obviously, feel like that’s a given), storms, and the sound of silence.
Fears :
- Complete silence. It gives her too much time to think, and God knows she doesn’t need any more of that. She tries to make sure there’s some sort of noise, at all times, and has a tendency to hum or sing random songs to herself if nobody’s around to make noise.
- Thunder. She’s absolutely embarrassed about it, but thunder reminds her so much of the canons that would sound in the Games. Storms freak her out in general, but thunder scares the shit out of her. Storms make her a bit more prone to panic attacks.
- Emotional attachment. Woo, time for a bit of angst. She’s scared of getting emotionally attached to people on a romantic level. It’s stupid in her mind, but given that the first person she genuinely loved on a romantic level just left her, and never came back, she’s terrified of that shit happening again. Although, even if it’s not a romantic attachment she doesn’t want to get hurt, so she’s careful about who she lets get close.
- The sight of blood. MAJORLY unhelpful in any Games to come, but the sight of blood makes her extremely nauseous.

History :
Samantha Stagg was born on September 21st and was the first child of Christine Fields and Kenneth Stagg. There’s not a whole lot to mention about the girl’s childhood - she was raised like every other kid in District 4, her younger brother was born on June 11th (three years after herself), and ended up making quite a few friends in school. Two of the more notable ones (they are important, I promise) are Elliot Turner and Carmen Rhoades.
I’m going to gloss over the family and home life bit of this ‘history’ section. Pretty much, Samantha has never been super close to her parents. She was a bit closer to her father, but even that, she never really got super close with either of them. Sam was closest with her younger brother, though, and continues to stay closest with him.
Now, a few months before the reaping (where Sam would get sent to the Games), Samantha and her friends ended up talking. They were considering just running away from the district and not coming back. The group was in the age range where the mindset was ‘oh, well we’ve been doing this for around three years now, and we have around three more to go. So screw it, let’s just leave.’ Although, they knew that a lot of the other districts had it a lot worse, and their odds were slightly higher than those in District 12, for example. Sure, they weren’t as likely to win as 1 and 2, but their odds were a bit better. So, they decided against the idea of it.
Which leads us to…
The Hunger Games :
Samantha Stagg was reaped for the 72nd Hunger Games, alongside one of her closest friends, Elliot Turner. The pair were the only real allies they had (that didn’t end up dying almost immediately) - and it was rough. They got split up in the first 24 hours, and Samantha ended up surviving by hiding. She’d received a decent amount of gifts in the arena and that was genuinely one of, if not the only reason she survived. Most of the gifts were from her mentors, and she felt like she owed her life to them for it.
A day or so later, Samantha found Elliot. He was half way to death’s door, and there was nothing Sam could do to help him out in the arena. Still, she tried, attempting to get his wounds cleaned and stitched up. It didn’t really matter, and her efforts were in vain anyways. They were attacked by one of the career districts, Elliot was zero help in fighting back. Samantha made it out alive, but Elliot wasn’t so lucky. He had an axe lodged in his ribs, and was bleeding out. Sam ended up putting him out of his misery, giving him a quicker death than he would have originally gotten.
Samantha won the Games by getting lucky. The only other tribute in the arena, in the end, stepped on a landmine that was planted by a tribute earlier in the Games. She killed four of twenty four tributes in the arena, and got out without major injury.
After the Games :
After the Games, when Samantha got home and mostly back to normal, she didn’t end up feeling normal. Obviously, the trauma was there, and it was absolutely awful. She didn’t really know who to lean on in the beginning, so she leaned on one of her friends - Carmen Rhoades.
The two literally spent all the time possible together, and there were various nights where Carmen would spend the night at Sam’s house. They were practically inseparable - Sam clinging onto the girl constantly, while out of the public eye. She didn’t entirely know how the life of a victor worked, yet, but she knew that pretty much everyone would keep their eyes on Mags, Finnick, Annie, and any other victors while they were out and about.
Long story cut quite a bit short (I do plan on writing a story for Samantha and Carmen at some point to get a bit more into this, and if this note is still here, then I have yet to write it), Carmen ended up suggesting the idea of running away again. Samantha immediately tried to shut it down, but Carmen told her that she’d be doing it with or without her. That was the last time Sam

That was the last time Sam saw Carmen. She doesn’t know if the girl actually made it away from the districts, but Samantha truly hopes she did.
Anything after that has been a bit of a blur for her. She’d gone through the actions of being a victor, but never thought too much into what exactly she was doing. Quick note for if the rp takes place during Catching Fire - Sam volunteers for Mags after Mags does so for Annie. Woo, double volunteering ! We’ll get into the reasoning more in the ‘relationships’ section.

Family -
Mother : Christine Fields. Christine doesn’t have a very close relationship with her daughter - she didn’t really want kids when she had her, and she was never good at interacting with them. In all honesty, she’s a bit scared of Samantha. Not because of the fact that she won the fucking Hunger Games, oh no, it’s because of the fact that she’s not sure how to help her. She’s seen the way Samantha gets scared, and she’s watched the fight or flight mode kick in. Still, her daughter just seems to push her away the harder she tries to get closer. Christine has tried her best with Sam once her daughter got back from the Hunger Games, trying to bond, trying to connect with her, but has failed multiple times. They’re practically strangers living in the same house, at this point.
Father : Kenneth Stagg. Kenneth had an OK relationship with his daughter. The man always wanted kids, and he always thought he’d be a decent father. Although, he noticed very early on that he wasn’t particularly good at it. Still, he tried, and trying seemed to somewhat pay off, given that he’s the preferred parent?? Kenneth was opposite of his wife after Samantha came back from the Games - he didn’t interact with the girl as much, and left her alone whenever he thought she wanted to be alone. This just resulted in their relationship drifting a bit, but it didn’t seem like either party really minded.
Brother : David Stagg. Samantha has been attached to this little shit since the day he came into her life. She took care of him more than their parents did (but that was entirely her choice. Both parents tried to take care of him, but he just preferred Samantha anyways) - in all honesty, David may care about his sister more than anyone else does. While she was in the Games, the boy barely slept, sitting in front of the TV the entire time, praying that his sister would make it back alive. Even when she got back and seemed so different, David didn’t take much notice. She still treated him the same, and he was about ten times more clingy than before. They’d started to take little walks together after dinner, and Samantha just attempted to keep him happy.
Close friends (might qualify as found family in some situations) -
Finnick Odair : Finnick became a sort of older brother figure to Samantha. He does his best to make sure she’s okay, and she really does appreciate it. Finnick is one of the few people Sam’s comfortable talking about events of the Games with. She’ll usually keep the details from other people - sparing them the ridiculous amount of detail that just sticks in her brain, no matter how hard she tries to forget - but Finnick doesn’t get spared many of those details. If she’s having a bit of a crisis, and feels like she needs to talk, she goes to Finnick. (Given that he’s in the District and available to do so.) In the earlier days, shortly after she won her Games, she ended up going to him for nightmares and things of the sort too. He was just the only person she found herself able to go to.
Annie Cresta : Annie is the sister in law figure, just because of the fact that she’s dating (and later gets married to) Finnick. Seriously, though, Sam just enjoys being around Annie. She enjoys talking with her about random things in general. Annie’s great and I wish I had more information on her character, istg.
Mags Flanagan : Mags has turned out to be a sort of grandmother figure to Samantha. Samantha would literally kill for that lady and it’s not even a joke. Mags hasn’t done a major amount for Sam, but she has been there. She’s seemed understanding, and she’s been kind, and she’s the sweetest goddamn person Samantha has interacted with in a while. The whole reason Sam would volunteer for her was the fact that the old lady deserved to just die in peace, not in the Games, where she’d be murdered in cold blood. Plus, Sam wouldn’t have forgiven herself if Mags OR Annie had died in there, and she

Plus, Sam wouldn’t have forgiven herself if Mags OR Annie had died in there, and she would’ve been able to do something to stop it.
Friends -
Johanna Mason : Johanna is literally Samantha’s idol. She finds that girl badass and awesome, and admires the fact that she’s not afraid to show how pissed she is over the fact that the Captiol is so fucked up. Johanna might not think of her as a friend, but Samantha sure as hell thinks she’s a friend, and that she’s one of the best people on the planet.
Peeta Melark : Samantha just finds Peeta to be an interesting person. She’d originally find it really amazing how good he was at art, and just made friends with him from there.
Katniss Everdeen : Katniss is just considered a friend by proxy. Samantha never actually got too close to Katniss, they only share brief and basic conversations, and Samantha barely considers her a friend.
Friends (non-canon characters) -
Elliot Turner : Elliot was not only one of Samantha’s best friends, but he was also the fellow tribute the year Samantha was in the Games. The two made friends in school, and would often go swimming together and things of the sort. They knew mostly everything about each other, which is why his death seriously hurt Sam. During the Games, they tried to talk about what they were going to do when they got out of there. Of course they knew that only one of them would make it out, and Samantha was genuinely planning on making sure he’d be the one to do so, but it just didn’t work out that way.
Carmen Rhoades : Carmen, in all reality, wasn’t really just a friend. She was the first person Samantha ever genuinely had a crush on, and the first person Samantha attempted to have a romantic relationship with. They never ended up calling it ‘dating’, but that’s pretty much exactly what it was. Carmen loved Samantha, and Samantha loved her in return, and that was that. Carmen literally just couldn’t take it in District 4 anymore, so she had to leave. Even though it was without Samantha, it was probably better that way. Either way, THANK HER FOR SAM’S SLIGHT TRUST AND ABANDONMENT ISSUES, AS WELL AS FEAR OF GETTING WHAT SHE DEEMS IS ‘TOO CLOSE’ TO PEOPLE!

Trivia :
. ✦ Samantha frequently gets necklaces from her younger brother. He’ll usually find or trade random charms to put on them, and attach them to some sort of twine. She’ll wear the necklaces often, and has started requesting that he make some bracelets to go along with them.
. ✦ Samantha’s family has a black cat that they lovingly named Bruce. This cat is also frequently called names such as - Little Sh!t, Thing, A-hole, D!ckhead, Tiny, Baby Cat, and B!tch.
. ✦ Sam has a journal that she’ll both write and sketch in. Her sketches aren’t great - she’s not artistic by any means, but sometimes drawing is easier than using words. It helps her in a way, when she finds herself unable to talk to people.
. ✦ Samantha loves fireworks. She finds it to be one of the few good things about the Capitol - that she’ll usually get to watch fireworks while she’s there. No, she doesn’t like the sound, but she loves the colors.
. ✦ Sam, as much as she doesn’t like to admit it, absolutely loves some the Capitol’s fashion. The girl can appreciate pretty clothes, and certain outfits she finds incredible. Her stylist would let her look through sketches for their designs on victory tours, and it’s Samantha’s favorite part about them.
. ✦ Samantha, although she’s had multiple moments of wanting to grow her hair out, is dead set on leaving it short. She’s seen how long hair can be used against people in any sort of fight, and is paranoid as heck about it being used against her.
